Fog Lights on with DRL

I have a 2020 TD ORP and I am curious if there is a way to run fog lights when the DRLs are on? It seems mine will not do it but I have seen some around my area with DRL and fog lights on, was it an option on later models or something. Tried doing some searching but seems I only found threads about modding the vehicle to do it.

You can buy a kit that will allow you to do this;

The Brite Box

Is that only to run High beams and fogs?
There is a write up in the stickys on how to make the fog lights work any time your switch on the stalk is on, you gotta do some cutting on the harness though. You can make it work on markers, DRL, low beams and high beams.

Yeah I won’t be cutting anything up in the harness. Im thinking it might be a thing for newer models that come standard with the LED fogs, as most I’ve seen have the LED dogs that form a circle type shape inside the housing.

It’s not a newer model thing. None of them come stock with anytime fog lights or fog lights that can be used with just DRL on

Correct, and I believe there's legislation that will prevent that ever being the case from the manufacturers. The low beams must be on for the fogs to operate, and when the high beams come on, the fogs turn off.

fogs won't work with DRL ever in north america because in clear conditions (aka DRL lights on) they can blind oncoming traffic (I'm sure there are OEM exceptions someone out there will find, but generally this is the case)

correct use of fogs should only be with low beams in adverse weather conditions. running fogs and high beams at the same time doesn't make sense as both beams serve different purposes (high beams in fog or snow is not helpful)

running fogs on their own at night when clear visibility with no other lights also is poor form. not enough light down range. hence why they only operate with low beams , so you can't use them instead of low beams

allowing fogs only to operate with low beams minimizes misuse of the lights. in addition, many people have installed after market fogs that are not street legal and don't know how to properly use them. in the daytime aftermarket fogs can be completely blinding, at night as well but to an extent less so

This will allow you to use fog lights anytime. With or without the headlights being on. Also fog lights can be on when highbeams are on as well. Plug and play so no need to splice into any wires.

(In Canada, DRL's are always on when the vehicle is on. No option to turn on and off)

Which one did you go with I am a little confused by all the models. Is there one that is simple install that doesn’t require any additional switches but allows me to toggle the fog lights on and off with the existing switch? I’m not a big fan of bypassing existing switching and functionality. And I see they also stay on with brights if you want them to, is that correct?

The kit I have requires a switch which is provided. Whenever the switch is ON it will override the normal function of the fogs from the stalk. When the switch is OFF your fogs operate as normal. Only thing is when the kit switch is on, it does not show the icon on your dash until you turn them on from the stalk.

Yes they stay on with high beams - if that is what you mean by 'brights'.

You would have to confirm with the maker as to the details of each kit as it has been a while since I looked into it.

There is a way to disable the DLR lights. It’s very simple but it will not give you the option to turn it on. I had to do this since the LEDs I put in my high beams were just too bright in DLR mode.

My new 23 TRD Sport with LED headlights and LED upgrade fogs has a button on the left side of the steering wheel that will allow the fogs to work with high beams.
Round switch on the stalk allows fogs to be used on low beams.
Switch on the dash to the left of the steering wheel allows the fogs to work on high beams.
This does not allow the fogs to work on DRL or marker light position though, but i am somewhat confident you can wire it with a relay to trick the ECU to also run the fogs with DRL and markers. I have not looked into rewiring yet, its in the future when i do some floorboard lights and a few other things have the lower dash pulled out.
Here is a pic i just went out and took. This is Low beam, high beam, and fogs. Completely 110% bone stock its brand new i have not wired anything.

I think the button you are referring to is automatic high beam. the fogs should only work with low beams. owners manual I'm sure will say that fog lights can only be used when headlights on in low beam

Yes I actually have done this exact mod. I bought an extra relay so I can have them on or off whenever I want, switching between DRL's on or DRL's always off. Bought the relay from EBay a few years back. I actually like having them on now since I switched to yellow DRL's.
