Depends on what the 6th Gen is & the price range.

I think there’s a chance that when it does come out, it may just increase the demand & value of 5th Gens.

That is one reason, not the only reason though by far. Who wants to buy a vehicle that has not been significantly improved in the last 14 years - not many! The reviews online for the newer 4Runner all harp on this factor which could push people away as well. Toyota could not even be bothered with filling in the old heated seat blanks in the console area from 14 years ago, that is just pathetic to me.

Sure, I have owned mine for just about 14 years now and had basically NO problems - you can't say that about very many vehicles, so that is a huge selling point, but it is not everything.
No point to change perfection. This generation 4 runner is just badass. The fact they improved it more affer 2020 by adding upgrades like led headlights, Apple car play, and all the new safety features are awesome!!!

I paid around $60K CDN for my 16 Limited and around $82K CDN for my 21 Limited. So after about 5 years inflation added a fair bit.

Have noticed the same around here in SE PA. Lots of 4Runners on the lots with good option and color choices. I am trying to buy a 2023 Tacoma right now (in addition to 4Runner, not instead of) and THAT is a different story. There are effectively NONE on the lots and people are snapping them up before they are even delivered. This is exactly what I had to do and have been waiting 2 months for it to arrive at the dealer. It is in a perpetual "In build or transit" phase. Dealer assures me the truck does exist.

Tacomas are always a bit more desirable to buyers than 4Runners (they are a truck and they do cost several thousand dollars less), but I bet interest rates are a huge part of the difference right now. Tacomas are still offering a 3.99% promotional interest rate. 4Runners still offer nothing.

I'm willing to bet quality control and parts quality were both better in 2018. My gf has a 2022 RAV4 that doesn't drive straight and Toyota is so lost on fixing it that they decided to warranty 4 tires 🙈.

Toyota of North Hollywood had two new 4Runners in stock, one silver and one red.

Considering that most buyers finance vehicle purchases, and with interest rates only going up, I’m surprised anybody is selling vehicles these days.

I suspect you are correct on all points. Super frustrating though. An unfortunate side effect of this is that with a popular vehicle like the Taco, at least around here, you are lucky if you get away with just paying MSRP and not an additional multi-thousand $$ "market adjustment" charge. When I compare the deals and adjust for inflation, I am still paying far more for this Taco than I did my runner during the pandemic.

A couple weeks ago when I talk to one of the dealers, the guy told me they are expecting tons (his words) of Tacomas and Tundras.

They are in Auburn, WA - Doxon Toyota. Give them a call if you still looking.
They sell to MSRP, no negotiations.

Thanks for that. That would be an expensive option to have to go with but it sure beats not getting a truck. Dealer, strangely enough, has a ton of Tundras.

I'm guessing there will we long waiting lists for the new Land Cruiser, Lexus GS and the 6th 4Runner once they are released. Plus, dealer mark ups. I'm guessing you may not see many incentives for a while on the 5th gens because the inventory may fill a void until all the new models are more widely available. Especially if the 6th gens are produced at same, current factory in Japan.

One more thing, if the 6th gen 4runner is made outside of Japan, I'll probably switch to a LC or GS which will be produced there.
