ko3's are coming out soon. might be an option.

anything over a 33 youre going to have rubbing issues that are more involved then jsut the basic BMC. IE fenders etc. heck my 33's/34's rub the inner fenders at full bump. I do not get how guys run taller tires then that and still actually abuse and use the full range of suspension lol.
self clearance inner fenders is a think ya know. lol.

Thanks for the insight on it. Yea I am considering those as well and the size seems ideal, but I am really leaning towards the wildpeaks since it seems like they may be a better tire overall especially in rain and snow etc. I wish the wildpeaks came in that size but it is a very one-off size. I liked my KO2's that are on now, but I do feel that at their current state 6/32nd tread, 45k miles and 5 years old they feel like their handling is quite degraded compared to new especially in the rain. So I am hesitant to buy KO2's again due to that.

I found this one. Never heard of this brand. They advertise: EVERY DAY, EVERY MONTH-ALL YEAR
3 Peak Mountain Snowflake Certified (3PMS) for severe snow performance. LT sizes are also pinned for studs.
TerraMax RT
Access Denied Disregard the access denied. It is a Motor Trend review of the Sailun Terra Max RT.

Duratrac RT’s are also 3peak rated.

The Sailun looks interesting but its only available in a few sizes anyway which would already be a limitation.

Simplicity and 33’s for the win. I wonder if a slightly modified 5th gen could complete this trail. Showdown: Bronco vs Jeeps - Who Will Be Crowned the Ultimate Wheeler? - YouTube

Lol no way a slightly modded 5th gen would be able to do that. You would need high clearance front and rear bumpers and probably 37's at a minimum. I do like simplicity and 33's for sure but the extra clearance is always welcomed if i can get it without too much cutting.

Also my current lift is: 6112 w/ heavy load springs and RSG tophats and Dirt king UCA up front, and metaltech Icon 2.5 resi LT rear with Dobinsons 677v Springs, extended brake lines, DR KDSS panhard correction, skyjacker extended endlinks with extra bushings stacked to extend further etc.

I was being a little facetious about a 4Runner. Wanted to see if anyone on here would say they could. As you said, it would have to be a heavily modded 5th gen to complete that trail. Let us know what tire you end up going with. Good luck with your decision.

I figured so, though there are a few built 5th gens here that could do it.

I think I am pretty much decided on 255/80r17 wildpeaks. For the rain/snow and the type of places I offroad(not extremely deep mud/snow) it would perform the best. On the 285's I have noticed that sometimes flotation has been an issue and though the width is not that much different, hopefully a skinnier tire would be noticeably better.

tall skinnies have gained a lot of popularity these days. their coolness is spreading at fast as the recommendations to buy Wildpeaks.
I just can't get behind tall skinnies, wide tires have their own benefits too as I'm sure you know.
I like my tires like I like my females asses; phat.

I think each type of tire has its place depending on use case. from a practicality standpoint I just think skinnies will serve me better since I mostly use the 4runner in winter and it never sees sand. Don;t get me wrong I would love to run 35x12.5's for looks but I think I would lose functionality.

I am going with wildpeaks mainly because my bfg's seem to perform pretty poorly before the tread is decently worn down so looking to try something different to hopefully get more use out of them.

I can get behind that, I agree with you.
I didn't read back far, but whats funny is you're getting Wildpeaks and you have BFG's, and I have notoriously coined Wildpeaks "the new BFG's". If people's dogs could have tires they'd have Wildpeaks it seems like these days. There's much better tires imo

I've ridden in some rigs with the Baja Bosses and they are quiet and comfy (they were 35s, D load). Yokohama just also came out with a hybrid AT tire that is 3PMS rated and has a 3-ply sidewall, but I'm not sure you want to be a guinea pig for those, especially since Yokos are always expensive. I think any of those options will be solid.
True

I finally ordered new tires since I have an offroad trip coming up in a couple months.

I ended up going back to ordering 285/70 but AT4W's. I really wanted 185/75 and was debating it for a long time. My reasons were that I frequently(only) drive at elevations between 6500-13500 ft and I didn't want to go bigger/heavier without a regear. Also now that AT4W 285/70's are a true 33 I feel it will still be a marginal improvement. I also would like to be fully prepared with reinforcing things properly before going bigger. I have the MC cam tab gusset kit I haven't put on yet, and may get spindle gussets.

When I put the tires on I will also do my brakes(stoptech rotors and EBC yellowstuff pads) and try to get my Metaltech rear upper and lower links installed if I have time.

The only downside so far is that AT4W's will be a lot heavier. 65 lbs vs 58lbs KO2's.
