GPS and Compass not working

Just happened on the way to work this morning. The GPS on the OE ahead unit on my 2014 SR5 has a red line through it and the compass where the miles show cycles continually from S to E to N and W with sometime SW and NE thrown in! I tried the factory reset on the head unit and the GPS comes up as red - see photo - does this mean the GPS antenna has failed ?

Coincidentally my microphone is not working either today with my phone or my wife’s - so what could have happened?

Any ideas before I start throwing money at a new antenna and microphone?

Just some suggestions. Check that the antenna wire is connected not loose. Check the fuses. Do a hard reset. Head units need updating. clean sd card.

Thanks I’ll do that,

Now this morning I noticed volume needs to be 30 to listen to radio when usually it has been 20 AND back up camera has stopped working.

So it seems all these issues must be related.

I don't know if it is a problem with 4Runners or not, but I know that a dying battery used to cause some crazy behavior in my old Jeep Liberty. The doors would randomly lock and unlock, lights would turn on and off and dash lights would illuminate randomly. It felt like something out of the Exorcist! It may not be a likely culprit for these more modern (and better built) vehicles, but it is a really quick and easy test for a competent employee at your favorite parts-store if you don't have the equipment to do it yourself.

When I bought my ‘18 SR5 used in 2019, the compass in the small screen between the tach and speedo was frozen in one direction and the NAV wasn’t functional. The mini SD card that stores the maps was missing. I purchased a new card from a Toyota dealership through eBay for about half the retail price and all has worked fine since.

But it does seem your other problems, especially if they all started simultaneously, are related and possibly a head unit failure. When first reading your post I was thinking a corrupted SD card for the navigation.

agreed - because their are multiple unrelated faults its either power feed, ground, fuse or worst case head unit has crapped out

Update - anyway suddenly driving home from work yesterday the radio volume went back to normal with a bit of crackle - scared me somewhat! - and all the other features started working again - backup camera, bluetooth phone, microphone, gps and navi.

I disconnected battery overnight, cleaned fuses, pulled out head unit and reseated all connections.

Everything at the moment is still working....

Hate it when no fault found!
