Looking to maintain the OEM Plus style and keeping the upgrades a little on the vanilla side (most I run is fire roads and backroads to canoe and camping trips), I'm set to bolt on the Spidertrax 1.25" spacers to my TRD Pro wheels to fill in the wheel wells on my Eibach stage 1 leveled setup. I'm waffling on the spacers, mostly based on the rare horror stories of failed bolts and long term safety of an extra point of failure. Also planning to upgrade to 275s or 285s when the factory tires run out (still only have 14k miles on the Ridge Grapplers) and thinking a true aftermarket wheel would be better suited for sizing up longevity-wise.


Some last minute holiday sales are pretty appealing - for example, looking at Nomad wheels and RRW, full sets can be ordered under $900, further offset by selling my TRD wheels on the back end. I like the clean and simple black options to stay close to OEM(ish). Anyone have any experience with Nomad? Seem to be Toyota focused but don't ever see them here on the forums. Is the 0mm offset (I believe the TRD Pro is +4mm) going to be enough to fill the wheel wells with bigger tires, or am I going to wind up wanting the spacers down the road anyway? Guess the safety concern would still be there, but maybe it all comes down to the looks. Thanks for any input in helping me spend my money!

I run a 1.25 spacer on a +1 offset wheel. Just torque your spacer properly and you won't run into an issues. My set have been on my truck for 70k+ miles and never had an issue, still on the original set of spidertrax spacer that I got barely used.




Use a offset/tire calculator like Alloy Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator. Offset, Tyre Stretch and Speedo Error | Will They Fit to give you a good idea of how much more a wheel/tire setup will stick out compared to the stock setup.

I have Eibach stage 1 and running 285s. I had the same spacers on for a long time and rubbed at full lock in reverse. I removed them about a year ago and no more rub.

I liked the look with them on as it gave it a better stance, in my opinion, and I never had a single issue with them, but ultimately for me not dealing with rub won out over the aesthetics.

I ran 1.25" SpiderTrax with 34" tires for about 27k miles. I did some off roading and even got about a foot in the air a few times and never ran into an issue.



I now have -25 offset wheels with 35" tires. The -25 offset looks very similar to the 1.25" spacer.

I have almost 20,000 miles on my Spidertrax 1.25" spacers with black TRD wheels (265 stock size Cooper Rugged Trek tires). No problems here, and I love the stance with the Spidertrax.

I had rubbing at full lock in reverse, so I pushed the front fender liners forward, trimmed some bumper by the fender liners, and did a mod to push the mud flaps towards the rear - the rubbing is gone.

To clarify regarding my rubbing issue:

I had already pushed front fender forward and removed mud flaps. My rubbing (with 285s) was at the edge of the body mount.

I've had Spidertrax Spacers on my truck for about 100k miles. Zero problems. When I replaced my rotors about 10k miles ago, they were a little stuck to the rotors, but just a tap with a hammer got them loose.

I run a Method 17 x 8.5 x 0 offset on a 285/70-17 without issue off road. Just some very slight scrubbing when fully articulated. No BMC. Still have my mudflaps. A minor front fender mod and 3.7 degrees on caster.

I've run spacers on pretty much all my vehicles, from 350z's, to tundras, and my 4runner.

Follow the toque specs to the tee, and don't be a numb nut and use a impact gun on your wheels and you will be fine.

I don't run spacers currently mainly but probably would still be running spacers if i wasn't running -38 offset wheels currently.

I had to do a BMC and trim the front inner fender (not a big deal) to run 33's on stock wheel with spacers. I didn't have to do NO mods to run 275/70r17s w/ trd wheels and spacers.

I ran a set of custom made 1" spacers on mine. I liked it to be a bit narrower and it helped with fender clearance a bit. The front works fine as the studs are short enough. The rear studs are slightly too long for 1" spacers. I machined recesses in the OEM Trail Edition wheels to clear the studs and it all worked nicely. I have a mill to do that, but you could do the same minor machining with a trim router and a 1/8" end mill for not a lot of $ if you wanted to go that route. It's not very hard to machine aluminum and you only need to remove about 1/8" of material where the studs contact the wheel. I considered just doing it with a router on mine because it's faster.

I also kept most OEM style look. Hidden winch, very tight fitting sliders, OEM style custom skid plate, etc. I also kept my lift at around 1" most of the time. I thought it was nicest to drive around 1-1.5" lift. And that is the lowest setting that's possible with the adjustable Fox front coilovers.

Most OEM Toyota wheels already have that space machined or cast open. That includes the Limited wheels. I also ran those with street tires when I wasn't going offroad. I think they have a nice offset with the 1" spacers.

Doing it again - I might go 1.25 front and 1" rear to re-correct the track width from a small lift. (As you lift the front get narrower track width)

Asked my question and took off to visit family for the week. Appreciate all your inputs, glad to hear the spacer kit should be a reliable option - don't plan on pushing any limits either way. I've been expecting that any type of wider offset will need some mild trimming and/or adjustment to make it fit, looking forward to the process. Sounds like I'll save a few hundred bucks on wheels and run the stock Pros, at least until a future Black Friday sale and the itch comes back. You guys all have some sweet rides!

On an unsolicited side note, if you've got a rubber mount/non-silicone full roof rack, check your bolts if it's been a while. Nothing like a solid rainstorm and wet seatbelts/rear carpets to remind me I need a little re-tightening after two years.
