Question Red LED always on next to SOS button

Our '22 Limited started failing it's self test, and leaving a solid red LED illuminated next to the SOS button. I'm still under the 3/36K basic warranty, so I took it in to the dealership. They pulled codes and showed two DTCs - B15DB, and B15CB11. The first one refers to the module not being seen by the radio. The dealership gave me a printout of the service manual page about this code. The second code seems to indicate a short on the antenna circuit (or a malfunction with the module that detects shorts on that circuit).

The dealer is telling me the red light is because I don't have an active subscription - even though my trial ran out 15 months ago, and the red light didn't show up until a few days ago.

Does anyone have a copy of the page that describes DTC B15CB11 for the 4Runner? I see it referenced for Lexus and a Camry, but not for the 4Runner. I'd be curious to know how that code would be diagnosed. Also, has anyone had this issue, and ended up getting a new "telematics" module or other repair from Toyota?

I don’t have an active subscription on my ‘22 either, but my light is green.

I think the dealer hasn’t diagnosed the actual problem.

Oh, I agree.

When I first left the dealer on Friday, it was back to a green light. A few hours later, neither light on after the self test. When you press the SOS button with the green light on, it makes a call and asks if you need help. If you say no, it gives you some other options.

With no lights, it makes a call and says you don't have active service - but says to press the button again if you need help. If you press the button again, you get to the same menu as the first press of the button when the LED is green.

If it shows red again, I'll have to try it and see what happens.

It's just kind of frustrating to know something is wrong and get a "shrug" from the dealership.

Agreed! The silver lining here may be that at least your truck isn't spying on you currently.

Just curious, does your microphone still work? Same thing happened with our Sienna but in addition to the light being red the mic was also non-op. Disconnecting the battery and letting it sit for about 30 minutes reset it and fixed it for us, fwiw.

Btw, when people have pulled their DCM fuse to disable that system, they've reported losing the mic.

My system has been functioning normally since my trip to the dealer. I assume clearing the codes "fixed" it for a while. It'll probably work until just after the 3yr/36K warranty expires.

I will certainly check the microphone the next time it happens. It sure seems like this 4Runner is a lot more "glitchy" with the electronics vs. my 2017. I have also experienced the random amplifier noise at startup a few times.

At least the top of the front bumper isn't always coming unclipped like the '17.

I just noticed the light on my 22 was still green the other day after ~14 months of ownership. it was my understanding that meant an active subscription as well and that it would be red if none. I actually thought we only got 1 year of Safety Connect when we purchased??
I believe in 23 they started including up to 10 years of Safety Connect on some vehicles, is there any chance they extended ours as well? I haven't gotten around to pushing the button and see what actually happens.
