Best Cargo Liner

I recently purchased a 2022 Limited 4R (w/o 3rd row or sliding cargo) and it has an OEM cargo liner that I've already grown to despise. While it does fit fairly well, the material surface is hard 'near plastic like' and anything I put in the back slides around like it's on a piece of glass. Makes me wish I'd kept my Husky liner from my 04 4R even though the color was different.

So here's the question. Which custom fit cargo liner does the best job of keeping cargo in it's place and thus protecting the sides and rear door panel from scratches & scrapes?

Did you get the OEM cargo liner (Genuine Toyota Cargo Liner 10-24 4Runner PK241-89H01-01 PK241-89H01-02
– Toyota Customs
) or the OEM cargo tray (Cargo Tray - Black | Part #PT21889111 | Toyota Auto Parts)

The tray is much better. Hard to understand why one word, liner verses tray, makes so much difference!

We got one of these for our new 24 PRO without sliding cargo tray. Hard to beat for the money too. We offered a seller $50 on eBay and it was accepted.

Take a look at this system and see if it would work for you. I really like it for my 18ORP.

It came with the cargo liner. Indeed, just looking at the cargo tray it appears to be more 'rubber' than the cargo liner, however it looks like the tray liner is only for the trucks with the slide out tray. I don't have the slide out tray or 3rd row seat.

I like the looks of that Gear Edge cargo tray. Is it fairly pliable and does it keep the cargo from sliding around?

We are both wrong, sorry about that. The item I cited is for a 4Runner with the 3rd row seat.

The picture they show is generic picture; it is not correct.

Here is the cargo tray for a 4Runner without the third row seat: Cargo Tray - Without 3Rd Row - Black | Part #PT21889112 | Toyota Auto Parts

a moving blanket makes a good cargo liner, and it's cheap, like me. moveable, washable, can be used as a blanket, can be used to protect delicate cargo, and also will absorb water/mud which can be machine washed out

My 4Runner came with the plastic liner too. It emits sort of a fingernails-on-blackboard sound as stuff slides across it. I’m going to replace it with a nice quiet rubber-backed carpet cargo mat.

Having rubber mats in the footwells is totally necessary, as feet will track in water, dirt, mug, and snow. But I don’t anticipate the rear ever getting wet enough that I’d miss the plastic liner.

So have a Husky Liner for my 4Runner with sliding tray.

Pros; It has raised edges about 2 inches and catches any and all mud, water, ice and sand etc. (picked up a potted tree once when I got home could not believe how much water came out of the pot because it was laying down), it is rubber like with raised grooves so items do not go sliding around.

Cons; its actually longer than my sliding tray so when I have a large heavy object on it and try to slide the tray back in, it has about 8 inches that drops down behind the tray and have to lift the item to get the mat up so the tray will close, (shakes head) it does cover the cargo are completely though when the second row is in the upright position.

That Gear Edge one looks good for the money. Similar to the Husky I bought which I've been happy with. I have no 3rd row or sliding cargo tray.

The Husky is now $119 so if that Gear Edge one is good I'd go for that all day for $50 on ebay if you can replicate the deal posted above.

I had the factory rear cargo liner or tray or whatever, as delivered with my 2022 SR5 Premium - it's a fairly soft and bendable rubber...having things slide around on it wasn't the big issue; it was the fact that the tray/liner itself would slide around in the back. It shifted front to back really easily, and I'd have to push it back in towards the rear seats every so often otherwise it'd interfere with the rear hatch.

I just replaced it with a 3D MAXpider cargo liner/tray and so far it's way better - in that it sticks to the carpet and stays put. As far as an actual cargo liner goes, no idea just yet...I haven't really loaded it up since I got it.

I also replaced the factory front floor mats with a set of 3D MAXpider mats as well...the factory ones were short and let dirt/sand/pebbles get all the hell over especially in winter with dirty snow getting tromped in on my boots. I haven't again really tried the new liners out just yet...winter here this year has been delightfully warm so no real snow in the car since I got them delivered. If they don't work out I can always go back to the factory floor mats...we'll see.

Do items slide around with this mat?

In 2019 I purchased a used 2018 SR5, with 3rd row. After purchase, I bought a full set of Toyota floor mats, cargo tray, cargo net and privacy cover.

The cargo tray does the job it's intended to do, but certainly isn't something I'd consider buying again. It's stiff, it has deformed and does slide. The only thing that keeps it semi in place is the two tie down rings that pop up in the back; though the tray can still slide a couple inches.

Of all the above mentioned accessories, the only thing that I feel was worth the price was the rear floor mat. One piece heavy rubber. I wish the front mats and the cargo mat was made this way. The cargo net in back is handy for holding small items in its fold that can easily roll out of the back; it made me cry to open the tailgate only to have an expensive bottle of bourbon roll out of the floor (level with opening on 3rd row equipped T4R's), drop to the ground and shatter. The privacy cover is a joke - there's six inches of gap front and rear (the cover in my Subaru Outback only has a small gap to allow the rear seats to recline a bit, flush against the tailgate) it's a pain to open and close as the rear tangs foul the 3rd row seat belt holding clips, and the pull handle ripped out within two years.

I would think that Toyota would have higher standards for whatever company that supplies their OEM accessories, especially that privacy cover. I'd quickly replace the offending units, but I bought them at the dealer and the investment for all of them considerable. So I'm stuck with them until they break.
