Urethane Sway Bar Bushings - 5th Gen
I have been doing some research on a few items to make the suspension I already have perform a little better and came up with a few projects to do just that. This first one was the least expensive and I decided to do it after reading the following thread here on t4r
Poly sway bar bushings?
The parts I ordered :
-Whiteline W21053G bushing pair
-Prothane 19-1185 Red 29 mm Universal Greasable Sway Bar Bushing fits B Style Bracket
-Prothane 19-1750 Super Grease Tube
The grand total from amazon was under $60
It took a total of an hour to install front and rear. The rear are non greasable and do not require grease. The front is a bracket and bushing with grease zerk.
From what I read I expected some “flatter” cornering. I had also read that it would reduce wind shear but I had doubts about that.
What I experienced is indeed flatter cornering and MUCH improvment with wind blowing me around on the highway. I also notice almost zero bump steer on the highway. For the cost, I highly recommend this project. This thing drives straight as an arrow with zero effort.
My suspension...

When you unbolted the fronts did you have any issues bolting it back up again? Or did you have to loosen other components to get it lined up again?

The very first thing I noticed when I bought it was that it required a LOT of driver input on the highway. Not anymore.
...and the bushings I pulled werent worn...they wer just a super soft rubber that could be compressed by hand. The urethane ones...no way.

No issues at all. I did passenger side before unbolting drivers side. The new brackets have slotted holes so theres a bit of adjustment room if you need that.
I cant wait to finish my project list, its off to a great start.

**Which is gnarly, b/c my rears were 21mm...

I have been wanting to do the same on my 2019 SR5 4WD. I checked the size of the sway bars and came up with 30 mm front and 20mm back using my caliper. Did you have any problem with fit? Thanks

I showed the bags/boxes for part numbers. Those are the bushings I removed in the bags. The rears ARE black though. Front red.

These are the sizes from the linked thread. There is a gap in the installed bushing which was also mentioned. I dont think it would hurt to go a size larger front and rear.

Definitely recommend doing both front and rears. If i recall correctly, I did the rears first and drove it a week or 2 and man did it change the driving experience. Definitely not a good experience. Did the fronts shortly after and it felt like a nice improvement over stock

Were you experiencing any squeaks from the OEM rear bushings?

What model of 2017 4runner and what suspension do you have? Do you have the KDSS suspension?

Yea, I did see the gap mentioned. Just want to make sure the bushings hold nice and snug. I did the same type of bushings on my 4th gen years ago with ride changing results. Bushings are still holding up well with very little maintenance. Thanks for posting your pics and results.
