Why so few choices in 275/70/17?

Interested in opinions/facts on why there are so few choices in 275/70/17. 265s and 285s are offered in many more options and from so many more manufacturers.

265 seems to be a very common LT OME offering and given it's fit/weight/adaptability on modern SUVs I get that but I don't understand why there are so many more tires in 285 than 275.

I had 275/70/17s on a 2013 4Runner and they were great, requiring no mods and caused minimal negative effects on other ride qualities.

There are obviously a few choices from major manufacturers in 275 but the numbers are so much smaller than 285s I don't get it when 285s usually require much more sacrifice in many ways.

idk what you mean. I just searched discount tire and they have 18 options for 275/70/17. Seems like a decent amount to compared to 5 years ago when you could really only get the ko2 in a 275. Seeing how you can only get a 275 in a D/E load, I would rather run a C-load 285 bfg ko2 that weighs 51 pounds compared to an 275 E-load ko2 that weights 55 pounds. Not to mention a 275 is more expensive than a 265 and 285

And a 285 is more of a sacrifice for only the 4runner/tacoma... plenty of other vehicles run a 285/70/17 stock.

I guess there ARE more options than I thought! I was looking the other day online at Tires Plus and only saw 2. I also looked at Tire Rack online but maybe had a filter setting of C load.

Didn't know the BFG KO had a 285 in C load - I will check that out.
