Rearview camera wiring

I have a 2011 with the rearview camera in the mirror. I want to tap into the wiring and feed the signal to the new head unit (OEM). I’d like to tap into the harness under the dash instead of in the head-liner, can that happen?
Where can I grab the reverse signal wire too?

Also if anyone else has split the signal what kind of degradation should I expect in the video quality?

Think you can find this in the stickies or Antman's build.

Curious, what OEM replacement did you go with? Have you installed it yet?

I'll be looking forward to what you find out and how you did it. I need to install a camera in my shrockworks swingers and want to just tap into the existing working.

I picked up a 2014 TE entune non-jbl head unit. I installed it to find out what was functional. So far so good, I have everything working except the backup camera, the unit is back out. I'm working to get the LEDs changed out now, from blue to orange. I might do a write up not sure yet, I'll see how it turns out.

Thanks for the clue on antman's thread, I'll give it a look tonight.

Just made it home to my computer and was able to find the thread. It was in Antman's build.

A write up would be really cool as I'm headed down the same path.

How's this project coming @DLSWyo ?

I just tried to install an Entune radio in my 2011 but am going to need some harness and/or adaptors. FM/AM antenna should be easy but what did you do for the microphone and Sat radio antenna? Did you update the steering wheel controls too?

Thought I kept links on this but can't find them now and search isn't being cooperative.

Thanks for your help,

Reid

I too am running the SW rear bumper, but I am looking to run it with and w/o the swing out at different times. I want to keep OEM camera and add one on the swingout with a switch that could choose between the two

This is what I put together so far:
20/8 to 28 Pin adapter – PT546-00120-CH
AM/FM antenna adapter - PT546-001200-AD
24 PIN harness connector (needed for backup Camera) – 90980-12200
Terminal wires (5x) needed for camera connector – 82998-12870
SAT antenna adapter – SFA12F

I have a 2011 SR5, it has the non-JBL head unit with SAT and hands free operation. I lucked out and purchased the 2014 TE HU with the gps antenna. I also have the backup camera which displays in the rearview mirror.

I also purchased a month worth of access to Mitchell1 for T4R wire diagrams (needed to do this work). Thank you Rigtec for pointing me to them!

So far:
I pulled wires from the rearview to the head unit, I haven’t hooked it up yet, I’m waiting for a DPDT switch to activate the backup camera per the backup camera switch mod (sp8ball/antman). I’m wiring it so both HU and Rearview show camera feed when in reverse. When I want to activate the backup camera and check my trailer the feed will show in rearview only.

The 2011 SAT antenna cable has a square plug, 2014 HU has round. To connect the two I’m using SFA12f, which is actually a 12Ft cable to plug a lexus shark fin antenna into an aftermarket HU. I’m coiling up the excess cable and hiding it behind the dash and using it as an adapter. It does work, a small rib has to be removed from the existing antenna cable plug for them to mate together its self-explanatory when you try and put them together.

I had everything tested and working except the backup camera. I know the 2014 HU can also display vehicle info but that obviously will never work.

All the 2011 steering wheel controls works as designed, the 2014 has the paddle controls I know, I will have to navigate the HU from the unit itself, since I don't know how slick the 2014 steering wheels controls are I guess I wont miss them

So now the bad news for me, I had a local electronics shop swap out the LEDs from blue to red/orange. The LEDs work but they managed to screw up the volume control rotary switch and I’m running into issues sourcing a new one. I’m thinking I can pull the switch off my current HU and swap it to the new, the problem with that is if that doesn’t work I have 2 worthless HUs.

Camera Adaptor Harness?

Looking at places to buy the adaptors I stumbled on this.

More info from Pac's website.

Not sure if it would work but it may for those just wanting access to the camera wires. In our case, it might be cheaper than buying the pin directly from Toyota.

looks like that connector/adapter would work, probably cheaper and easier than what I'm doing.

DLSWyo,
Im hoping you can help me tackle my rear view camera project. I have a 2010 SR5 with the rear view mirror camera and am installing a 2019 Head unit with navigation. From what I've research I have a 14 pin connector beneath the mirror cover plate at the windshield.
Im thinking I can intstall this adapter and utilize the wires that I need to make the screen work on my HU. https://www.amazon.com/2005-2015-200.../dp/B0CY3QCST6
Please let me know which wires I need to tap into to make the video show up on my head unit. I wasn't planning to put a switch in like antman and sp8ball have done. I just want the image to show on the head unit.
To my knowledge all I need is (2) wires going from the mirror connector and down to my head unit. I'll need the red reverse wire and the white video wire? Is that correct? initially in your post you had put (3) terminal connectors and then you said (5)
I'll also need to know where to install these wires in the 28 pin connector at the head unit.
Appreciate any help!
