Trade-in value?

I have a '10 SR5 w/ the premium package - original owner - always dealer serviced - fully detailed every 6 months, etc. I went to the dealer today to start the process of getting a new one and get a trade-in value. 173,500 miles.

They came back with $7,500 - which I said was below what I was expecting, they went to 8k but said they would not go anymore.

There are a couple small door dings and some small rock chips on the hood, other than that the vehicle is in great shape. However, it does need a set of tires.

KBB is saying between 10k & 13k. NADA is saying about $9,500.

Curious if there is a thread about trade in values running or if anyone can give me their thoughts on the price they gave. Curious what others with older 4R's have seen with value? Thanks!

Te dealer will always give you less than what you sell it for yourself. Try AutoTrader. Cars for Sale - Used and New Cars, SUVs, and Trucks - Autotrader

Yes, that is always the case, but sometime it is easier to just trade-in vs sell privately. My last vehicle I sold privately, but looking just to trade this one in.

I got $11k for my 2012 SR5 Premium with 190k. Carvana offered me $11,600 so 11k trade in was worth it with sales tax figured in.

It's not your situation exactly but it's close and was fairly recent. Hope that helps. Use Carvana against them instead of KBB or NADA.

Mine was super clean except for the fact the rear hatch was about to engage bluetooth mode and the frame was getting a little ugly even after a lot of care... Which I think they didn't even notice either when I watched them inspect it.

Another vote for trying Carmax or Carvana. Carvana probably got me an extra $2K or so at least in my pocket when I unloaded my 2020 Disco Sport earlier this year.

I find it interesting the suggestion for Carvana or Carmax, as both of those sites and the worst value! They both have it around $7,500 when KBB, NADA, etc have it between $9,500 and $10,500.

I ended up getting $9,500 for it.

The drivers seat, on the side, has some missing 'leather' - The drivers side door arm rest was worn and damaged - all four chrome door handles were UV damaged and cracking - there were a couple door dings on the vehicle - front hood hand a fair amount of rock chips - tires were just in the red and needed to be replaced - brakes were close to needing to be replaced (I thought for sure they were going to flag it during the last oil change based on the prior visit but they said it would be fine until the next one).

I had the vehicle detailed twice a year so the paint that is not damaged is in pristine condition and no swirl or scratch marks anywhere else. Rest of the interior was in great condition as well.

I had two dealers both offer me the $9,500 and given what needed to be replaced I thought that was a fair price.
