I've put 40K miles on Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S tires. Now comparing new Cooper Road+Trail vs Yokohama Geolander A/T G015, which is recommended by my local service dept and listed as the local bestseller on the Toyota Tire Center 4 for 3 offering list. Anyone familiar with both or have strong positive or negative experiences with either, especially on wet roads? Thanks for any input.

Geolanders are a proven model line, the Road & Trail is a new model. Overall, Cooper has almost 7 times as many recall entries with NHTSA as Yokohama. I've personally had better luck with the Yoko brand than Cooper overall. I'd personally go with the Yoko all other things being equal, but you'll find many Cooper loyalists that will disagree. You did say "thanks for any input", so I'll just say, if I could find a model that fit what I was looking for as far as driving experience that matched the Cooper or Yoko you were looking at, I would go with a Falken or Toyo brand over either of those. Cooper is about normal, seems like people get about 40,000 miles out of them. I think they are a decent budget tire but i feel they are not in the same ballpark as Toyo and General and Continental lines for quality and durability. How many times have you had to rebalance those coopers? Typically most owners are seeing the shake in the steering wheel and seats and need to rebalance about every 15,000-20,000 miles. This is due to the cords in the tire changing their direction and splaying backwards as the tire rotates forwards. Honestly the newer BFG AT are one of the worst, seems like everyone is having to rebalance them at 10,000-15,000 and most folks on heavier trucks are wearing them out in 35,000 miles or so.
The Toyo AT appear to last about 60,000 on most light trucks like ours and rebalances are about every 20,000-30,000 or so, they are expensive but they are higher quality than walmart brand and other bargain brands. Me personally i prefer the General AT line, the current is the AT/X and it is by far my favorite tire. Amazing in pretty much everything you put in front of it, it goes anywhere and everywhere you can think, snow, ice, sleet, rain, it doesnt hydroplane, it steers well, its quiet, and it lasts.
My 4runner has 98,000 miles on a set of General AT/X LRE tires, and even though they are load range E meaning 10 ply, they ride smooth and soft, far better than you can imagine. I run 25-26psi in the front and 22 in the rear and they lay out perfectly flat on the road and the ride is soft and the mileage is unbeatable. They are 6 years old now, and starting to fall apart, the tread is getting hard and cracking and the lugs are chunking off from the gravel roads i drive. The tread however still has another 25,000 miles of life left on them. I bet i could get to 130,000 if the tire wouldnt fall apart.
Oh, i rebalanced and rotated them for their first time at 40,000 miles. I just rebalanced and rotated them for their second time at 90,000 miles. I have owned a half dozen sets of these tires and they are getting 60,000 on my dually that pulls a trailer every day of its life, and about 70,000 on my 2500 SRW diesel that doubles as a daily driver and pull toy. These are my favorite tire but i doubt they are on the buy three get one free deals.

All the recalls are TOYO. 2021, most were Cooper in the 275 size. I think the whole business of rebalancing fell through the cracks because I bought the Coopers from America's Tires but never went back there, so all the care they got was being rotated every 5K at Toyota Service. I never felt vibrations in the steering wheel or else they were minor and I became desensitized to them.

I think what tire you use should consider what kind of off roading you may be doing.

Personally, I would avoid the Yokohamas. I had them on my Subaru and they were one of the worst tires I have ever had for snow and ice. Granted they were a M+S model, not AT, but still a bad experience.

For mild to serious off roading, the Falken WildPeak seems to be one of the favorites. https://www.falkentire.com/wildpeak/attrail

But for serious off roading, there is nothing better than the BFG KO2. That is what I have.

I have had so many A/T tires on different 4wd trucks and SUV's. Toyo, Cooper, Goodyear, Falken, BFG, Yokohama, the list goes on.

Toyo lasted, but had marginal wet traction

Cooper had uniformity issues.

Goodyear had uniformity issues.

Falken really had uniformity issues.

BFG, I've had every iteration going back to the 80's, Dry desert trails they'd be my choice. They have comparatively poor wet traction.

I have the Yokohama A/T G015's in load range E on my 5th gen currently, They are quiet, balance well and seem to stay balanced. I haven't needed to re-balance them in 4 years of use. They do well in snow, and great in rain. If an A/T is what you're looking for, they are my current choice.

This is interesting. I've had uniformity and balance issues with Cooper, Goodyear, Kumho, Pirelli and General. Had one set of Kumho and they were the best traction-wise, but one tire was completely out of round on arrival. Cooper and Goodyear I've had several sets of and none lasted anywhere near where they were advertised. I almost always had to go back for several re-balancing on several different vehicles. Had one set of Pirelli which had the poorest traction, were noisey out of the gate and were a tramlining nightmare at highway speeds. Had 2 sets of Generals which didn't wear well and had incredibly soft sidewalls. No issues with a current set of Falkens or previous set of Michelins or Yoko Geolanders. I am currently running Falken Rubitreks. I have about 10,000 miles on them and, so far, they have been pretty darned good compared to what the Wildpeaks (at the time) would have cost me. The new version of the Wildpeak wasn't available yet when I bought these. I'd say the Rubitrek is the Falken equivalent to the Yoko Geolander GO15 as far as intended ride and usage expectations.
