Water Intrusion

I just noticed a few drops of water drip from the drivers side of the sunglass holder. I have previously cleaned out the sunroof drains. Where else could water come in, in that area?

Roof rack rail mounting holes. Even if you don't have a roof rack/rails, the holes are still there with a cover over them. The mounting bolts have these ridiculously thin (think paper thin!) washers that are supposed to keep water out. Hah!

Get it fixed right away for moisture on the side air bags can ruin them, and they are very expensive to replace. Water will also damage the wiring and connectors across the roof and cause all kind of strange behavior. Also, water can stain the head liner.

There are good diagrams in the instructions for the TRD roof rack that show all the bolts and washers: part number PT278-89190.

I used some silicone caulk around the bolts instead of those flimsy washers, but others say not to use silicone, but rather butyl rubber.
