Add a 2in Rear Spring to 1.5in Rear Shock?
Hello everyone, I am in conundrum.
The story goes, I purchased FOX 2.5 for my 14' Rnr and unfortunately I learned after purchasing the set that the rear 2.5's are rated for 1-1.5in of lift. Apparently Accutune makes a 2in version using the tundra shock, anyways I was fine with the 1.5in lift and paired it with the wheeler T13. At first I was very happy with the ride height and driving response, but now that the spring has settled with sliders, roof rack, RTT, (250-300lb spread between the front and rear) the 1.5in has become a 1in lift.
I wanted to know, because I wasnt able to find specifically, what would be the downside of adding a rear spring that added more lift the the shock than the shock would allow? The rear 2.5's have 8in of articulation if I remember correctly so even with a 2in lift I would be sacrificing the down travel for the added lift, but would this cause issues with stretching the shock or bottoming out more often?
I would prefer a 1.5in spring that is rated for medium loads (sliders, roof rack, RTT), but most 1.5in springs are for stock or would adding a rear spacer be the simple answer without getting a spring that would not work in tandem with the shock. I am open to suggestions, and I have been sitting on a pair of Icon 52700 but Im afraid that these springs have been known to give 2.5in of lift which would be too much in my opinion. Dobinsons makes C59-505 – 1.75-2.0″ with stock weight, so my thought is with my added weight it would drop this spring to my desired lift, but with the spring compressed so much it wouldnt handle any better.
