Front Diff Wheel of Fortune

Anyone else’s driver side CV-Diff sound like this?

- YouTube

This was:
-Wheel/Tire off, front end on jack stands
-phone ~2inches away from diff (sound is much fainter otherwise)
-stethoscope was loudest right where the CV enters the diff. Wheel bearing was quiet.
-I can’t hear it at all when driving the car.
-4Hi engagement is perfect - no noise in 4Hi/2WD
-Just ordered the ECGS bushing …

Probably as you guessed: needle bearing. There is a T-SB on that (service bulletin).

It looks like you have the suspension hanging try it with the jack under the lower control arm. The axle is lot level from what i could see at the end of the video. The axle should be level or close to it if not the bearings in the axle might bind a little at full drop. That sounds like the axle bearing binding not the bushing. Changing the ECGS bushing would be good to change but you might be chasing a noise that is not there only with the suspension fully hanging & you don’t drive that much with the suspension at full drop, axle should be fine unless it makes that noise just driving around normal.

That’s a great call. I did have the suspension hanging at full drop. I will try again with the LCA supported. Thanks for the suggestion.
