Which direction to get Apple Car Play in 2014
Bought my wife a 2023 ORP and she loves the Apple Car Play and GPS. Now she wants the 2014 head unit upgraded so she’ll have Car Play and the bigger screen. Asked for it for Xmas. So which unit? Chinese options vs Entune?
She’s not hung up on sound as she mostly plays podcasts. Definitely wants the bigger screen with the better maps function, as she does a lot of geocaching off-road.

I bought this one a few years ago and have been happy with it. The only downside is that it takes about 30 seconds for CarPlay to fully power on after the car starts up. https://a.co/d/3N1Lxdy

Where can you find the OEM head units?

I'd research such companies as LKQ, who specialize in cannibalized late model vehicles involved in crashes and the like. They have warehouses all over the US. Most auto parts chain stores can order for you, but charge a middleman fee.

Use LKQ yards all the time. Probably the only one who also owns their stock.

Like CrackerZ, I went with a Dasaita (also from Amazon). I have a 2017 Off-Road and was unhappy with the screen size and not having Car Play. I've had the unit
for around 2 years now.....MUCH larger screen, better audio, and wireless Cap Play. It DOES take about 20 seconds to boot up, but having it is great. I figured if there
was an issue, Amazon is easy to deal with. I installed it myself. Good luck.

When you says 20 seconds to boot up, is that on initial install, or every single time?

My wife says the OEM Entune head unit in her 2023 ORP takes 20 to 30 seconds to boot up Car Play too.

Looks like the Dasaita is touch screen vs push button for the OEM Entune. Any issues with the touch screen?

As others have said: LKQ. LKQ also sells on Ebay. I have bought two car radios from Ebay LKQ vendors, both excellent.

Sony XAV-9500ES Plug & Play Bundle | '10 - '24 4Runner
– Trail Grid Pro
I'd just get this. It's going to be less expensive and better than Entune. I have a 2015 and it does a lot to modernize the interior.

As far as boot up time - it's 20 seconds or so after ignition on, the unit energizes, then has to pair blue tooth and wi-fi to your phone. No issues with
the touch screen. I downloaded a software update from Dasaita but haven't installed it yet.

Go with a name brand head unit, not a tablet pretending to be a head unit. Crutchfield is a good place to start.
