COVID Years 5th Gen?

I’m currently looking for a ‘20-‘24 to buy. I’m just wondering if there’s any reason to stay away from late 2020 thru ~2022 4R’s that were likely manufactured during the height of COVID rules. Just a little worried about QC during those years especially in the drivetrain with issues that may not be showing up yet. Would you be concerned with those models at all?

I’m probably overthinking it but just wanted to get some opinions. I did some searching around and couldn’t find any recent commentary on this.

Havent seen too many issues on this forum. Now if it was a f250/f350 during covid years i'd say stay far away.

When there was an outbreak of Covid at either the factory or a supplier, Toyota shut everything down. No need to worry. They were very careful. That is why those years were in short supply. Must have cost them a small fortune.

I bought my '21 RAV4 then and they were in very short supply due to the shutdowns.

That’s good to know, thank you.

My ‘21 4Runner Nightshade hasn’t shown any fit and finish issue and at 50k miles zero mechanical issues. Covid didn’t really start to effect supply chain until mid 2021.

My old '21 Off Road had the common rear hatch handle rust issue. It also had a leak in the front KDSS piston. Both were covered under warranty luckily, especially the KDSS since that is a big money repair. I traded it in for a '24 Off Road mainly to get the Solar Octane color lol

Wifey and I own a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid XLE All Wheel Drive, (NOT the plug in hybrid) built in Japan. And we also have a 2022 4RUNNER SR5 Premium 4WD.

Zero issues with both so far. They’ve been perfect and we love both of these built in Japan covid era vehicles. We’ve just been doing our routine maintenance. I get the engine oil and filter changed every 5,000 miles or 6 months on both vehicles. I do not believe in going 10,000 miles between oil changes.

I change my own oil and filter on my 4RUNNER, keeping a written record, while I let the dealer do the oil changes on the wife’s RAV4.

Some friends of ours have a 2021 4RUNNER 2WD, (I call it a 2RUNNER. Lol) which was built during the covid era, and they are happy with it with no complaints. The only bad thing they went through was they were only given one key at the time of purchase. It took them quite a while to get their second key. (Fob)

2022 year rear cameras are crap.
I can't recall which year got better again, chip issue I think before.

There's a thread buried on this. Besides the camera quality issue on screen, rest seems good.

I've owned 2015, 2019 and now a 2022. Fit and finish all the same. Solid.

How are you finding used pricing for these years? I'm also shopping and it seems high to me.

Just came across a 2021 sr5 premium, KBB has this listed at 37k for a fair purchase price and then I see msrp was only 39k on these.

I was hoping to stay 35-36k OTD on a couple year old Sr5 with under 40-50k miles but not having any luck.

Used car prices vary considerably by location. Be sure KBB has your location dialed in.

A few months ago, my 2018 SR5 Premium was shown to be worth $35K, same as I paid for it new. 4Runners hold their value better than most other cars.
