Limited - Black out the rear tailgate garnish

What's the best way to black out the limited's rear tailgate garnish?

Is there a OEM black garnish and does it work with the limited? I couldn't find one online. Also how easy is it to swap the garnish out? Or do most people just plasti-dip it?

Im on a mission to de-chrome my limited that I got recently. I ordered these badge overlays online (OEM on amazon: Amazon.com) for the front and rear yota emblems but didn't think about whole the entire tailgate garnish is chrome.. I think making the entire garnish black is better than just overlaying the "toyota"

(PS: I tried searching the forums but maybe my search skills stink)

I could not find an overlay for that piece. Thus, best to replace it with a colored one:

Item 1 in that figure. Appears to just bolt in from the back (items 5,6,7). For most 4Runners, they are painted the same color as the car, thus the OEM ones probably come unpainted, and you can paint whatever color your want.

I was contemplating switching with an OEM black garnish, but it’s a considerable amount of work to replace it. I ended up trying plasti dip and it’s held up really well for 3 years now - plenty of wear and tear testing with car washes and MN winters.

I think plasti dip is probably best bang for your buck. Since you mentioned de-chroming your limited, check the link below. I put the front and sides on mine last spring and have been happy. The vinyl comes in a big sheet with the pieces pre-cut, I had plenty leftover to do the bumper trim piece and could have done the garnish too but i'm happy with the black overlays it has on it now.
