Cooper Discoverer Rugged Terrain (Initial thoughts)

New set of Cooper Discoverer Rugged Terrain tires.
Here are the specs:
285 75 R17
P Rated (4ply)
60,000 mile treadwear
16/32" new tread depth
600 Treadwear
(A) traction rating
(B) heat resistance
No 3PSMF symbol, but the cooper website says they are rated for it
Purchased them for Big O for a killer deal of "Buy 3, get 1 free". Out the door I paid 1064$!

Previously had a less aggressive AT tire (Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo 3) and my initial impressions of the new Coopers is they are slightly louder, but given the much more aggressive tread pattern, they are surprisingly quiet. I notice a light whirring noise from 30mph to 60mph. Compared to mud terrain tires, these are much, much quieter (and smoother).

For the ten or less serious off road trips a year I take, these tires will be more than enough to handle what I throw at them.

My main consideration is how well they do in bad weather, specifically heavy rain. With a large open tread design, I hope these can handle the small creeks that form on our Colorado highways during heavy rains. These creeks are formed on asphalt roads by all the folk driving around on studded snow tires and partially from heavy trucks. Doesn't seem to happen as much with the concrete roads, but expansive soils and freeze thaw cycles wreak havoc on this type of road material.

Excited to see how these tires hold up. They look like mud terrains, sound like all terrains, and wear like passenger tires.

Do these come in Load Range E (ie 10 ply rated sidewalls)?

will start looking for tires soon the k02s are beginning to slip in the rain about 45k miles on them. Purchase will be through costco so possibly k02 again or try the k03. 265/70/17 but might go little bigger

i'm guessing OP meant to say 285/70-17 not the 34/35" flavor. otherwise thatd be a unicorn size/load rating. still, nice price! is the weight listed somewhere? i cant find it on coopertire and the download spec sheet doesnt list the SL rated on, only the e rated 285/70-17

I've been running the Rugged Treks for over a year now in the stock size and XL load. They've been great overall. They were fantastic offroad the few times i've been able to try them out, mud and snow were no problem. Same thing on road, great performance in snow and rain, no worse than my previous Wildpeaks there. They do feel somewhat heavy, and my mileage has gone down a bit vs the wildpeaks, but that could also be my 4runner, with it's 220k on the odo. I'd definitely buy them again, and probably will when they wear out in a couple years.
