4WD Will Not Engage

4wd will not engage and I’m getting these dash lights intermittently flashing. Any indication what this could be? A sensor?

The owners manual says you must activate the 4x4 system often to keep it functional. If you don't, it may freeze up.

Drive forward slowly and turn the steering wheel a little. Mine is slow to engage at times after not being used for a while.

After it engages, shift it in and out a few times.

The green light of the frame and wheels tells you it’s in 4wd. Not sure what the green 4Runner tells you.

For the multi terrain light. Check the wires that go to the front diff actuator.

I use mine at the boat ramp just to keep it working.
My dad has a 2002 Chevy silverado Z71 with 31,000 miles and have never used the 4X4 system.
It has just started throwing the code of service 4X4 ..
The dealership told him its from never using it . I use mine all the time just for that same reason.

If there's an ABS issue, there should be an ABS or related light on the dash.

Not necessarily, There have been instances where a faulty abs sensor or stretched wire or dirt have caused the 4wheel light to blink.
