Getting a "Check Engine" after Changing Plugs

I need some Help.

I have a 2014 4Runner Trail Edition w/KDSS, with 108,000 miles.

I just changed changed the plugs yesterday and now I am getting a "Check Engine" , & a "TRAC OFF", light on continuously, and the green "Multi Terrain" light is flashing.

I had no issues before changing the plugs so I must have done something wrong but not sure what.

I thought I must have missed a wire connection or even a vac. line, when putting everything back together. After double checking all looks good.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get a code reader and find out why the check engine light is on. Many auto parts stores will read the codes for free.

Thanks, I'll be doing that this evening. I was just hoping that someone would be able to point out something I was over looking.

would check connections again. What you are describing is probably a loose connection of some sort, I had wires chewed near the fuse box and the same lights you described.

If you can't find anything disconnected or connected wrong you should try putting the old spark plugs back in.

The connections to the back of plugs are weak on the Toyota wiring harness. In particular, the plug to the secondary air valves, particularly on the driver’s side, are susceptible to wires loosening, or even pulling out the back of the plug. This has happened twice to me. I forget the code #. These can be repaired with tools for the plug or simply installing a new pigtail plug.

Thank you! to everyone for trying to help.
I guess this was a false alarm, as after driving to and from work yesterday, every thing is back to normal. Well the warning light are off and the engine is running smoother and with a bit more pep.

You should still be able to see stored codes if you’re curious.

I just changed the spark plugs on my 2007 4Runner after getting a slight rough idle for a few seconds and then the Check Engine Light (CEL). It is also called the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). I DO have a code reader and there were 4 codes: Too Rich, Misfire-multiple, Misfire Cly 1 and Misfire Cyl 2. I could not determine when I had last changed the spark plug so I decided to do it myself.

After completing the job, I used the code reader (OBDII) to clear all the codes. They stayed off and there was no CEL. It does take a while for the car to run all the self-tests. That means that when you read the codes you may get some "OK" and some "INC" incomplete. After driving for a few days all tests were OK.

As someone said above, most auto parts stores will read the codes for you, even codes in history after the CEL goes out.

Get yourself a code reader.

Good luck
