GPS location way off when using CarPlay?
'24 Limited - iPhone 15 Pro on latest iOS version.
When I run Waze or Google Map lately the location shown on the vehicle screen or phone app will be way off and it will try to redirect me all the time. The second I unplug the phone from the CarPlay usb cable the location instantly recenters exactly where it should be on phone apps.
Is there a setting either on the phone or the vehicle that could be causing this?
Thanks!

It appears to be some strange interaction between Google Maps and CarPlay. Over on the RAV4 forum, people have complaining about this for years, and I have the same problem with my RAV4. They call it the "wandering GPS" over there.
Recently, on a trip to California, I rented a Chevrolet Malibu with CarPlay, and Google maps did the very same thing when connected to the car. Thus, I concluded, it was not the car causing the problem, but rather the cell phone.

I have had the same issue in rental cars when wireless CarPlay is enabled and I plug the phone in to charge in a data port. Turn off wireless CarPlay has always solved the issue - or plug phone into a non-data power source.

Ok...so glad to know Im not the only one. Ive used CarPlay, wireless, in a work vehicle a few times and never an issue and I used it in a rental car on vacation for a long weekend, wireless, without any issues.
Wired in the 4R is causing issues though. I might go through the setting on the headunit to see if I can find a conflict somehow.
It is frustration to have CarPlay for nav but not be able to use it.
Since it happen with both Waze and Google maps it is not the app causing it.

I have the issue always with my wired CarPlay, RAV4, and wireless rental cars (Chevy Malibu just last week). Also with the phone plugged in for charging, and running on it's own battery (not plugged into anything). Thus I still claim it is not the car, but rather something on the phone end. I can't tell if it is the phone hardware/software, or the app.

Well.....looks like I'm not the only one....seems a lot of people have it, Toyota seems to be a big offender of this issue though:
Apple CarPlay GPS wrong location issue - Apple Community
Does not seem a fix is anywhere in sight either.
