Still has the rear side-hinged door -- scratch the GX460 off my wishlist. Sigh.

But has a flip up glass section, the side hinge doesnt bother me at all, and I would actually think its easier to open if your hands are full and all you have is a finger to pull the handle. Ofcourse on a Lexus, it should be powered either way!

Initial observations:
Not as polished, balanced and refined looking as the GX470 - which looks good from any angle, inside and out.
Its like Toyota's SUV designers are going through their own 'Bangle era' like BMW had 2002-2008....
Over stylised headlights, grill and tailights spoil it, but overall the profile is good and not that different.
Dont like the exaggerated kick up on the window at the D pillar, kind of pointless, why not just keep it flat and follow the tailight curve up?
Interior is fine, though there's an obvious effort to be gadget abd button orientated - Its more 'Jap chitzy'.
If the headlights and front fascia treatment were more like the Prado (simpler), I'd like it even more.

Overall its fine, kind of expected everything I am seeing, now if Bushwacker will get on making some fender flares to add some muscle to the flanks it will look even better!

Ok, are you guys 110% sure that's not Highlander-based? Cuz it looks like a Highlander. It even has fold down seats.

Not bad at all, and up to this point I'd always thought the GX the least attractive SUV in the Lexus lineup. The new style is easier on the eyes than the 5th gen at first glance. I like the new instrument cluster. Never did like the 3-circle styling Lexus/Toyota has had going till now. The steering wheel is way too busy. How it drives nice!

BMW originally put the "Hofmeister Kink" on the 1500 back in the early 1960s (so named for the head of BMW design at the time). The kink, along with 4 round headlights, the kidney grill and a swedge line running the length of the vehicle, are the 4 cornerstone styling cues that make a BMW well, a BMW.

In fact, the only BMW not to have the Hofmeister kink (excluding convertibles of course) was the original BMW M Coupe. The Kink visually helps set the chassis on a forward and more aggressive stance.

Not to be disparaging, but the Japanese quickly copied the Homeister kink (Lexus being the number one imitator of this design cue). Unfortunately, they generally miss the point of it and make it way too big. Where the BMW version is very subtle, the Japanese tend to make it into something huge...

When you are parallel parked, that side hinged door is a huge pain. Your stuff is on the curb, but the door opens on the other side.

When I'm fishing on the beach in a light rain, opening the hatch allows me access to the rear without getting the interior soaked.

Different strokes for different folks. A side-hinged door is a deal-breaker for me.

100% sure. It is built on the same frame as the 2010 4Runner. It is basically the same truck sold overseas as the LandCruiser Prado.

Um, no. The Highlander and its Lexus stablemate, the RX, are unibody cross-overs.

The 4Runner, GX460, and Land Cruiser Prado are all traditional body-on-frame trucks, built with the same frame on the same production line in Japan.
