This is a great thread - very helpful to know the warranty prices. Wish I'd known about the huge variety of prices out there before I bought the warranty for mine.

Can't complain too much though - it's already paid for itself and then some (new master cylinder ain't cheap!)

This is why I sometimes buy extended warranties - great summary

Secondly most people don't understand that you can buy EW's from any dealer. They have their car all figured out and negotiated then they drop $2,800 on a warranty that can be had for $1,200 or something. They were so happy with the free floormats that they don't realize that everything has to be negotiated with a car dealer.

Can you buy the extended warranty after the OEM warranty of 36K miles/4yrs?

You can only get a Toyota extended warranty while the bumper-to-bumper warranty (3/36) is still in effect.

Then i'd feel like getting ripped-off. 125K/4 yrs minus 36K miles/3yrs.

Everything in a car sale is negotiable!!

I negotiated gap ins.,life ins., lojack and a 6yr/100k bumper to bumper/no deductible warranty as part of my deal to finance with Toyota . I was already pre-approved to finance with my credit union at the same 4.65 percent rate so to finance with them(They make almost as much in financing as they do in selling the car) and to protect thier investment as well as mine it would be included since they actually own it til I pay it off in 5 years.I had it on my last finance with them and never used any of it.

At first they said no way, that finance was separate from them and I called BS and got up to walk out. Suddenly they came back with the "mgr. deal of the day" if I signed now.

This is what I posted earlier in the thread.

Sounds like you can.

Unfortunately, sometimes even Toyota 4Runners are not without problems.
Earlier this year I had to have the Park/Neutral POS Switch Assembly replaced in my 4Runner. This switch would make the reverse indicator in the dash pod light up dimly at the same time the vehicle was in Drive. It also caused the Check Engine light to come on with a code. This assembly was replaced under my extended warranty (~$300). The CD player in my 4Runner is throwing up "Error 1" messages when I play just about any CD. That too will get replaced under my extended warranty. Between these two repairs my extended warranty has more than paid for itself and then some.

FYI, since when does the Toyota Extended warrant cover the windshield? I think you may be mistaken on that.

I posted the price to give the forum a baseline for their pricing. Someone posted that they got the same extended warranty for $684.00 (if my memory is correct) and that's a killer deal.

The price that I received was afforded to me as a favor by the dealer as I was going to buy a new 2010 Trail at invoice cost but declined to do so.

This was because I didn't like the removal of the Torsen diff, no 4.6 V8, no six speed tranny and what appears to be a move by the factory to saving money at the expense of the overall quality of parts and design in the 2010 model.

I told the GM that if in 2011 0r 2012, the factory brings back the Torsen and improves the build-out of the Trail model, then I'll step to the plate and buy one... most probably at invoice.

I'm kinda pissed after seeing this thread. I did so much research on buying the car, and got a great deal on it.. but i did no research on the extended warranty and I ended up buying the 6yr/100k mile $0ded. for $1196. It was actually 1495 and he said "the best I can do is 20% off". hmm, seems like BS now. but it's too late, i already financed that 1196 into the loan.

I'm calling tomorrow and going to talk to some kind of manager and see what they can offer me, if anything. I still haven't done their "survey from toyota" that they keep calling and writing me letters about. They are urging to give them excellent ratings.. I will just threaten (in a professional manner) to complain in the survey and see if that gets me anywhere. Does anyone think I can get a free installed remote start? haha, let's see. or maybe free oil changes. In my eyes they owe me the 500 or so dollars they beat me out of.

and just out of curiosity, does anyone know if an extended warranty can be extended?

Was it the extended warranty underwritten by Toyota Financial Services (TFS)? The extended warranty by TFS is fully refundable within 60 days, after 60 days, it's prorated and a $25 process fee. I've cancelled the extended warranty before on my other Toyota.

I don't think you can get two extended warranties--the max is 7yrs/100k miles.

Also, you can always buy the extended warranty when the basic bumper to bumper warranty is in effect (3yrs/36k miles).
