@Pensacola - Yes, cancel the one you got and get the Toyota Platinum coverage. Many other people here have done the hard work of locating the best deals, and thankfully posted them along with contact info. It's really that simple - unless you think someone else should have your money?
@Rouge - Your warranty is from date of original puchase/milage. So, a 5yr/75k warranty covers 2yrs/39k beyond the included 3yr/36k warranty that comes with the vehicle. Keep that in mind when purchasing.

Taken directly from Toyota Agreement:
"For a Vehicle Service Agreement which is a NEW or CERTIFIED USED Plan, the AGREEMENT EFFECTIVE DATE is the date the vehicle was first placed in service as a new vehicle, even if that date is before your VEHICLE PURCHASE DATE. Miles are total vehicle odometer miles starting a zero, not miles counted from the AGREEMENT APPLICATION MILEAGE as shown on this Application"
In my case I purchased my 4Runner new in 11/2004. When I purchased my extended warranty 35 months later I had about 4 years and 2 months of time or 55K left on the 7 year/75K warranty.
AFAIK, all, Toyota Extended Warranties (and most other automakers as well) overlap their factory and extended warranties like this. In my case, all of the issues my 4Runner has had occurred after the 36 month factory warranty and cost the warranty company OVER 2X what I paid for the extended warranty. For me, having the warranty was a good thing and paid for itself.
Purchasing one of these warranties as late as I did (ie month 35) should be done with caution. The "or 75K, 100K or 120K Miles" part of the warranty could make for a short warranty (ie less that the number of years on the warranty) if one is putting 15-20K+ miles/year. My 4Runner had low miles and I knew I would not exceed the 75K mileage in those 4 years and 2 months. In fact, when my warranty ran out last week (time wise) I only had 42K on the odo.
Bottom line when it comes to extended warranties is Do Your Homework and make sure you understand all the Rules and what is Does and Does Not Cover. For some people, that is best done After the vehicle purchase when the pressure is off and one can think clearly.

Does this extended warranty work in Canada? I know with Chrysler vehicles you can purchase the extended warranty through the U.S. and it will count for Canadian vehicles.

Great point! That's something to keep in mind when you considering cancelling and purchasing back extended warranty. For 'new' warranties (I think when you are an original owner) warranty expiration date will be the same regardless a date when you bought a warranty: during 1st month or 35th month and is equal to a date when vehicle was put in service + warranty length.
I was considering canceling my warranty now and purchasing it again in 2 years do lift up an expiration date. After reading warranty terms it doesn't look doable anymore.

Jerry's the Man!
Jerry is a professional, courteous and provides great customer service! I just ordered the 8 year/125,000 mile plan from him for $1,399 and a 75,000 mile maintenanace service plan for $980. Yes, this is for the car in my signature. Since it's my first new car, I wanted piece of mind. However, remember, there are plans that cost less depending on miles and years.

How many years is your 125,000 mile plan good for?

Thanks to this thread, I just saved a ton of money from an extended warranty sold by the dealer. They pushed Fidelity Warranty Services and claimed it was the same as Toyota Platinum Warranty. Not True.
Thanks to this thread and Google, there were tons of complaints about Fidelity. The VA dealer claimed they've been using them for the past 15 years w/o any problems, but who really knows how true that is.
It turns out, my wife forgot to sign as a co-buyer on the finance form, so when we went back to redo the paperwork, I had them take it off the buyer's form. They didn't sell Toyota Platinum so they even offered to do it to save the hassle. (I was told they have an exclusive deal with Fidelity to only sell their warranties).
I've already contacted Jerry so he'll be getting some more business soon (8 years/125k for $1399). Thank you T4R

8 YEARS 100,000 MILES $1,039.00
8 YEAR 125,000 MILES $1,399.00
Are the Toyota maintenance plans a good deal? Anyone ever run the numbers on that?

Help deciding between aftermarket and Toyota platinum
Hi guys...thanks in advance for any help/advice you could provide.
I'm wrestling with whether or not to cancel my aftermarket (master tech) extended warranty that I purchased with my 4runner and purchasing the Toyota Platinum or just keeping what I've got...The warranty I purchased seems to be pretty thorough and basically covers everything except a few wear items (and the price is in line with what Jerry and Troy are offering).
I got the standard "this company offers better service/payout than toyota" from the dealer but I can't help but think that remaining with toyota would be better somehow. I just don't know who to believe!
Any opinions? Anybody ever deal with one of these aftermarket companies and compared to Toyota?
Additionally, thanks for all of the info you guys provide...I've been lurking since before the purchase and this forum is awesome...a real sense of family/community.
Now I just need to take some pics and "introduce" myself!
Best!

When my previous 100k Toyota extended warranty ran out, Toyota wouldn't cover the broken power sliding door on my 2004 Sienna. Even though it would have been covered under the TSB if I had less than 100k, they still wouldn't cover it. However, they did say they would give me a $1000 check if I bought a new 4Runner....so now I have a new 4Runner and am waiting for my check.
To fix the power sliding door would have cost them around $1200-$1500...but Toyota would rather give me money if I bought a new car???
Needless to say, I'm sticking with Toyota Extended Warranty. Due to a mistake, I was able to return the Fidelity Warranty w/o any issues. I googled Fidelity and got a whole slew of complaints against them.
FYI, here's one for Master Tech as well ;)

There doesn't seem to be much complaints about Master Tech out there which is good for you. However, I simply don't trust ANY 3rd party warranty.
My dealer said they've had no problems for 15 years w/ Fidelity. The internet horror stories say otherwise. Read the back of your Master Tech warranty for early kill clauses similar to Fidelity's 50k early kill clause even on 100k warranty's. They leave themselves a legal "out" so they don't have to pay out.

So the power sliding doors are not covered under warranty? Wife has a 2011 Sienna, I'll have to research this further and read her paperwork. I'm thinking it falls under electrical components? Thoughts?

Mine was not covered because I had 105k miles and my Toyota Platinum coverage expired at 100k miles. Toyota told me that had it failed earlier, they would have covered it.
Please note that there was a TSB out regarding the sliding power doors for certain years and mine fell within those years. I was screwed because my power sliding door lasted a lot longer than others.
TSB: EL004-04 / POWER Sliding Door Inoperative 19Apr2004
Presumably the 2011's have fixed this problem since they already knew it was a problem many years ago.
Except....there's a new problem w/ the door now.....

Platinum ExtraCare
When I purchased my '03 4R LE, used and private party, it came with the Platinum warranty, which we transferred into my name. Didn't think I'd need it, but you never know. First, 3 calipers locked up - replaced them and the 4th I paid for, parts only, so I'd have 4 new ones. Then, 3 XReas shocks were leaking. Had them replaced and I paid for the 4th. Since I bought the 4R, the radio would sometimes go quiet when driving and couldn't put it on or change stations or play CDs. After a while, Toyota USA OK'd a full nav system replacement - with an updated nav CD. All of that was done between 55-80K miles, before the 4R was totalled by an oak tree. I estimate the the cost of the repairs at at least 5-6 times the original cost of the warranty.
Beautiful truck, it saved my life, and I miss it. So, i'll be getting a '12 LE and for sure I'll get the Platinum warranty!

I purchased the 8 / 75000 Platinum Plan w/ $0 deductible from Troy. Paid $709 for it. I've bought from him in the past and is great to work with. Highly recommended.

Call Jerry at Midwest on Monday and ask. Better to get the info straight from the guy we all recommend as having the best price vs. second hand. I know his contact info is farther back in this thread and I have had an easy time getting in touch with him both times I called to ask various questions. He'll shoot you straight.
