If you're Toyota, would you issue a press release that states "We've added $1,700 in equipment but we removed a bunch of other features! Buy this truck today!" Of course not.
My disappointment is with the magazines and other media outlets that just parrot the press release without any real thought or analysis. I don't need Four Wheeler to repeat the press release. I can read the PR just fine. I expect them to go beyond the PR and mention that the $1,700 in added equipment was balanced by the removal of some 4th Gen equipment -- auto climate control, in-glass antenna, etc.
I've noticed the same thing about a lot of magazines' reviews. They simply restate whatever PR materials the manufacturer provided to them on the press junket to drive the new model.
That's why I stopped subscribing to
Motor Trend,
Car & Driver and others...
