For the haters!

If you haven't seen the 2010 in person yet, don't be so quick to judge it!

By the pics i thought it was really big and boxy, but I've seen two now. White limited and black SR5 - they LOOK great. The SR5 was a really good size, had some steeze to it, if you will - I have been converted.

Right there with ya. I was quite impressed with it in person. I still think I prefer the interior of the previous gen slightly just because of the higher quality materials used overall, but the new interior is still nice. I think the seats in the new gen are more comfortable as well if I'm not mistaken.

Did you drive it?

Cheers

Opinions may be different depending on "what" the 5th gen is being compared to. I have seen and driven the new 4Runner, but am comparing it to my 3rd gen. Toyotas newest offering is quite a bit bigger than my 2001 in everything but interior head and leg room, and exterior ground clearance. But the biggest difference to me is the "feel" I get while sitting in it. The belt line is so much higher that I seem to be sitting deep in the vehicle. This also raises the the height for which I have access to the rear cargo area through the roll down window (a HUGE feature for me with my needs). Thankfully, the floor of the cargo area is also raised in the newer model, so the actual area to which I have access to is not diminished by the higher belt line. The 2010 is 2 inches taller than the 3rd gen (larger stock size tires, no lift). That does not sound like much, but is a big difference when applied to a vehicle. Roof access is another real need for me, which is why I am so concerned about running boards in some other threads.

Having said all this, it may sound as if I don't like the new 4Runner. That is not the case at all. I am giving HIGH consideration in trading my 01 for the 10, as soon as Toyota or the aftermarket solve some of the product availability lacking that will help meet my needs for the vehicle.

I do agree that everyone should see the vehicle in person before passing judgement. IMHO, the new 4Runner is not very photogenic when it comes to the interior quality. Although, materials can always be better, they are much nicer looking than photographs indicate. I would have thought that the silvery plastic console parts would be very cheesy by the photographs, but was pleasantly surprised at the finish in person. Also, the "holographic" type gauges of the Limited and the (I think) TE are way cool. If you have seen the movie Avatar in 3D, you will probably like this display.

The 4Runner drives very nicely and has plenty of pick up even at 4800+ pounds (I drove the Limited). Very comfortable and quiet ride (but I also own both an old XJ and a convertible, so relevance should be taken into account). The test drive was only on highway and around town (as one would normally expect), but the vehicle was solid and predictable. I will need more seat time to really get a feel of whether the higher belt line will affect my visibility while driving. The 4Runner does continue to have very large side view mirrors, always a good thing in my mind.

The one thing that I am of the opposite opinion with the OP is that I think the black Limited and white SR5 look great upon seeing up close.

i can agree with you about the photogenic part. when i was first looking at the new 4 runners, i didnt like the looks of the front ends at all, or some of the interior stuff. after test driving a limited overnight (good small town dealer) then seeing an sr5 interior, we definitely wanted the limited. I love the holographic dash stuff. i like how its bright, but it doesnt affect vision or cause eye strain at night. my only wish with the limiteds is that they come with more wheel options. if i could have, i would not have gotten my limited with the 20'' wheels. i much prefer the looks of the TE ones. However, its nothing one cant change with time and money, after i wear out this set of tires

Amen todos!

Did not drive it, hoping to go with my Dad soon to check it out!

I just saw it on the free way and it looked great. A lot smaller than what I would of thought. I'm really excited to go and sit in one.

I'm just curious how much quieter, if at all, it is in the cab when in flight compared to my 08. I saw comments here and there that seem to suggest that the new one is quieter in the cab. This would impress me greatly because I find my 08 v8 limited to be quiet as it is when driving. This was what initially impressed me about the 4th gen before I bought. It surprised me how quiet and refined the drive was.

I like the new one so much I'm considering replacing my wife's honda accord that's coming off lease over the next 6 months or so with one of these 5th gens. This way I would have the best of both worlds :-) When I get bored of the 4th gen I'll take the 5th gen out and vice versa LOL.

Cheers

Take this for what it is, but the salesman told me the cab is quieter than the 4th Gen he owns.

I keep hearing about "burger trays." Does anyone have a pic of this - curious as to what they are/what they look like.

I hear ya dude. Its all good.
I once pulled a french fry from under the seat on my 3rd gen during an interior cleaning. It must have been there for years. I was so grossed out that I stopped eating fast food on that day.
You have a sweet looking truck. Whatever you decide you'll be good to go either way.
