Waxing ?
The last SUV I purchased the dealer told me to wait a couple months before waxing it as the paint should cure. I thought he was full of you know what, but I have heard that from others over the years. I was curious if that is an 'urban legend'? Can I wax at any time or should I wait?

LOL. Thats what I was thinking. My dealer personally waxed mine after the 3M coating was done, for 4 hours, on his day off, because I was coming flying down to pick it up. And of course, picked me up at the airport. Point being, that's pretty funny. Although I asked my dealer why there were no tires and he said I should wait a while and drive on the rims until I "broke in the edges". It took a while to get home, having to find railway lines to use for most of the way....

"Differant paints will require differant wait times. Some will take as long as 6 months before they will fully cure (under certain conditions) and be safe to wax, and some paints have chemicals in them that will greatly reduce cure times and the paint will be as hard as it will ever get within a couple of days and the paint can be waxed by the time you pick up the car. And several differant wait times in between all depending on what was used and any baking that was or was not done. The only person who truely knows the right answer is the person who applied the paint."
Hmm... not so dumb is it.

I can't stand to have the salt sitting on/in/under mine right now. I gave up on washing it by hand (washed it at least 10 times since we purchased it just over a month ago). And the brushless car washes do not even get it clean. I'm thinking about ordering some SaltX soon because after washing it (in the brushless washes), I can see salt seeping out of the circles around the back-up sensors and from other cracks/crevices the next day. Of course owning a black vehicle always needs cleaning even in sunny weather (my California Car Duster will get a workout this summer).

move to Alaska - we don't use salt. On the other hand you can bank on getting a big fat rock through your windshield.....

Most recommendations is wait 90 days or so for new paint. However, since the 4Runner is made in Japan and the voyage across the Pacific is about 30 days, the time it sat at the port and lot, it could be less.
I would wait, but that's just me playing it safe.

It was recommended that you wait to wax when lacquer was used. This type of paint needs to dry over time as the solvent evolves out from the skin that forms. Because of the high amount of solvent used in lacquer, it could take a long time, depending on atmospheric conditions.
Modern paints are high solid and are cured through a chemical reaction. There is much less solvent used. A urethane is formed through the combination of an isocyanate hardener and the clear coat substrate resulting in cure times as quick as 15 minutes depending on the temperature used during force drying. Once cured you can apply a wax or sealer. There is no way a wax coating is going to lock in any solvents.
Good luck with your new truck.
