Bike storage in cargo area....

Has anyone transported their bike in the cargo area yet? Just wondering what the best way to tie it down would be and what kind of straps to use. I have a triathlon soon and need to get this figured out....any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I've always used Saris Traps in the back as it holds them steady without scratching them up.

Here are some pics of my Epic in the back of mine.

I'm actually working on a way to install some Saris fork mounts somewhere in the back so you can just lock it in that way. I did this in my Tahoe years ago, but I just need to find a convenient place...need a way to transport my bike fro tri's as well. I'll update once I figure out if its possible.

I cut mine to the exact width of the sliding tray and attached it with 3 screws . I potted nuts in the tray so I only attach it when going riding. That picture of mine was when I was still working on it.It wasn't attached yet.

Not alot of that going on around here as all the trails are closed due to mud/flooding.That way I can just pull the tray out with the bike attached and I have something to sit on to change shoes too.You can also get some wheel mounts.Saris Cycling Group

That's awesome, thanks for posting this. I've only had mine since Saturday and I've been looking at it everyday trying to figure out how to incorporate the sliding cargo with it to maximize ease of use. I think you've done it and saved me a bunch of thinking!

For me, yes. Theft can be an issue even in the best parts of town. I don't usually go to point A and back home to load and unload. I'll make other stops, go out for beers, maybe go to work first and so on. Leaving several thousand dollars in bike on an external rack isn't really a good idea in my opinion.

Same here, I have some major bucks tied up in my mountain bikes. Possible theft would be the issue.A hitch bike rack like yours is ok to go from home to the trails but I'm usually busy running all over the place too. Alot of times I'll just leave it and my riding stuff in the back and if I have extra time before or after work ,I'll ride.

I intend on having both. I ride Cannondales w/ Lefty forks, so taking the front wheel off isn't as easy as a traditional fork, hence the hitch mount will be nice. When I want to keep my bike out of the elements, I'll plan on having a way to mount it inside as well.

I plan on mounting one of these, Fork Up, on the seat bottom that flips forward. That way it isn't in the cargo area and is totally hidden away when the seats are not laid down.
