Exclamation My quest for a TE with nav (West Coast)

So the quest has begun! I'm offically on the search for my black 4runner TE with nav & KDSS. I have been denied ordering the car from dealerships. Saying they cant do it because they arent seeing the trail models that much. So I'm here asking you guys to broaden my search. I've called about 15 dealerships and no one has it.

I'm willing to drive out of state to get the vehicle or have it shipped here if it's not all the way across country.

Who knew that something like this would be so difficult.

If you're on the same quest let's help each other out and give people a heads up where they are!

Good luck with your search. 4Runners in general have been hard to come by. I searched for a SR5 with a third row seat for 3+ weeks until I located it out of state. Drove 200 miles to get it but after driving it for the last month I'm very happy I did.

If they won't let you order it find another dealership. That lie is getting a little old. There is no reason they shouldn't let you order it.

Is the navigation worth it? I really like that it does the bluetooth hookup and ipod, and backup camera.

Reklov - I feel your pain. Here in So. Cal. no dealers have any in stock or on the way for that matter. For some strange reason (higher price maybe?) Calif dealers have decided not to offer TE's w/Nav. The only place they seem to be plentiful is the great state of Texas, and a few occasionally in Oregon. I finally found a dealer (Miller in Anaheim) that was willing to place a preference order for a Mag. Grey w/Nav and KDSS. They say 60-90 days if the order is accepted. If not, it looks like a plane ride to TX.

Sorry, I tried!

It's very nice to have. I can say unequivocally that I wouldn't be AS happy with just the KDSS, even if I do turn off the screen half the time I'm driving. It makes hooking up the bluetooth, selecting station presets, and inputting quick dial numbers very easy. And finding JUST one bank's branches, or one motel chain, or one gas station chain after a few minutes of playing with the map settings is a great tool for road trips.

Don't believe that. They want to sell you what they have on the lot, not what they can get in a future allocation. Put down the deposit, get the preference request included with their next allocation, and maybe your 60-90 days will be as short as my 60-90 days... it came in three weeks!

And they make plenty of Trail Editions with KDSS & Nav as you can ONLY buy them that way in Hawaii; they don't import them without both.

They were telling me that the nav is only available in certain "regions" of the US. The west is apparently not one of them. The Toyota website has a tom tom unit but I have never seen any pics from owners with one. They only made 1500 TE (I got one!!!) so good luck in your search. Also, I have only seen silver, red and blue. You may be out of luck. fingers crossed.

Call an auto broker. Don't waste your time with dealerships. I have a great one if you are interested.

I guess the Nav comes in handy in Hawaii - all those long trips. I find it hard to believe that Calif. dealers have elected not to get allocations w/Nav.

Toyota 6th GEN Nav Systems...
I'll just come right out and say it as I've said it before and I own one,for now.
Toyota's 6th Gen. Nav systems, which is what's in our new 5th Gen 4runners and all new Toyota's for that matter, is easily 3-5 years behind what Kenwood, Pioneer,Eclipse and Alpine have out right now in in dash 7 inch screen Navs.
If you don't believe me ,just go to any car audio shop and see how far they have come.Especially the new Kenwood eXcelons with the built-in Garmin 3-D.They are cheaper too.Our Navs don't even play DVD's or iPhone video's!
The sound is decent for OEM but I seriously could'nt recommend this Nav system to my worst enemy.
I just put my Toyota flame resistant suit and tinfoil hat on so let's hear somebodies elses opinion on the navs. Would you honestly have bought it again?

The OP asked "is the navigation worth it" in this thread!
$2420 for the nav option on a TE and you think it's worth it? DO tell!
