Pets
I took my 2 dogs to the vet in my 5th gen yesterday, it was only the 2nd time they have been in it. My question is, has anyone gotten any kind of a pet gate for the back, if so what kind and how well do you like it? I have never had one before and never really wanted or needed one but I have decided for my own safety and theirs, I need to keep them in the back while I'm driving. Just curious as to what others are using.

I can't remember what thread it was in, but someone took pics of their pet gate in the back of their 5th gen.

my dog spends most of his time laying down or with his head out the back window so i havent seen the need to get a jail gate put up

I couldn't really tell you how I like the pet gate bc my dogs haven't yet been in the Runner. I am still awaiting my set of Ultimate Pet Liners before I allow them in the Runner. I'm trying to take every action to protect the interior of this truck (unlike the last car), so they will have to wait until I get my pet liners put in.
I plan to get some solid, durable mesh grating and cut it to form fit the gate and will wire-tie it to the gate. The reason for this is bc my dogs may be able to fit their heads in b/w the bars and this might allow more hair up front in the 2nd row seating/flooring than if they kept their heads completely behind the barrier. I think I paid about $90 for it and got it from Hunter K9 Gear's website.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

I wish mine would lay down and/or look out the window but my dogs HATE riding in the car but there are times that they have no choice. They freak out and climb into the front seat while I am driving and the little one tries to ride in my lap while I'm driving (a 25lb Jack Russel/Rat Terrier in your lap going down the road doesn't work well) so for me the "jail gate" I'm afraid is a must, even though I will hate every minute of putting them back their, for my own sanity and all of our safety that's where they need to be.

yea, i'm still debating on the best way to haul our bassett. as of right now she's got one of the plastic pet carriers thats also her crate, so she rides in that, because i dont want Molly piddles or any other Molly mess in the new 4 runner. Eventually I want a good set of pet liners for the back. I'm also afraid she would chew.....and she would go down the road for chewing the T4R.
I'm not looking forward to her being full grown and having to LIFT her into the truck. she does sleep while riding mostly, though.

Sounds like a call to the Dog Whisperer is needed!

I just installed this last week. So far so good. I had the one with 2 legs that stretched top to bottom from Petco but it fell over all the time. This new one is issue free.

Definitely, I like dogs more. Dogs are much friendlier and love their owners anyway. Yes, cats are prettier, but they are consumers. Cats will treat people not as owners, but as breadwinners. Therefore, I prefer dogs. I always bring my dog with me. It doesn’t matter if I go to work, to my family or to a date. In order to prevent the dog from scratching the seats of my car and leaving it's fur, I bought the best car seat covers for dogs

I just use a leash in all of my cars. Just loop it around a tie down and hook it on their harness. Because my pups love the rear window on the T4R, I just loop the leash around the handles of the sliding cargo tray.

The others needed to include a dog photo with the post.

So true.
My guy loves the open rear window so much he never tries to move up in the cab. Dogs love 4Runners as much as the owners.
