2010 4Runner Limited vs 2010 Lexus RX AWD
Aside from being body on frame, greater towing capabilities, higher ground clearance... what's the real difference between a Limited and a Lexus RX w/ AWD? Why would one be better than the other?
Or are they really pretty much the same thing.

Wait did you just say that?!?
Umm one is a SUV Body instead of a Camry Body on the same exact platform.
The other is a body on frame true 4WD vehicle with a bigger motor, stouter suspension, REAL 4WD with a locking center differential, solild rear axle... the list goes on and on.
The difference is one is a Cross-Over (pooosey) with AWD to have better on road handling characteristics and one is a bigger real Body on Frame Truck/SUV (Real man)

Differences -
Completely different chassis
Completely different engine
Completely different suspension
Completely different drivetrain
Shall I continue?

No...one can actually go offroad.
I also own an 05 RX330 as well as the 10 4Runner and 08 LC200 (as well as on 05 SRX).
They are night and day vehicles. If you do not need the offroad capability and don't care about the looks, then the Highlander/RX is a better bet. It's more managed on the road and better highway fuel economy, just never take it offroad.
I personally like the stiff ride of the 4Runner (limited with XRES) over the RX, but that's just me. My SRX also has much better suspension than the RX. The Highlander/RX is the difference between a miniman and a sedan -- not an SUV IMHO.

They are completely different.
The Lexus RX AWD system is FWD until the wheels slip. Only after the front wheels slip do the rear wheels engage, by which time you might be stuck. The RX does not allow you to lock the front and rear driveshafts together, nor does it have a low range.
The 4Runner Limited has a lockable, limited slip center differential. The result is that the Limited sends torque to both the front and rear axle all the time. Further, you can lock the center diff, which makes the front and rear driveshafts turn at the same rate. In addition, the 4Runner has a low range.
In summary, the 4Runner has significant offroad capabilities. The RX basically has none. If you are mostly concerned with getting to work in a snowstorm, the RX is probably more than enough. If you want to go offroad, the 4Runner will work, but the RX won't.

The RX has...
Active Torque Control all-wheel drive (AWD) with variable torque split and manual-locking center differential if the Limited has all-time 4wd - which I assume means it drives primarily in rear-wheel drive until senors determine slippage - that its pretty much the same? But without 4LO? No?

So, what's the difference between an RX AWD and a Huffy Bicycle? They do the same thing, they both get you from point A to point B. How technical do you want to get here? Maybe you should get a bike, essentially it does the 'same thing'

Completely incorrect. The AWD system can ADJUST power from fore to aft depending on acceleration and traction. I am not sure what the bias is normally at, but most are 40/60.
The Limited's full-time 4WD system is a true 4WD system. All 4 wheels are provided power. When turning power is not shifted, but rather the LSD in the front and rear "slip" allowing the vehicle to corner (outside wheel needs to spin faster). Also, the front tires need to spin faster than the rear when turning (although not as much from fore to aft as from left to right). The center differential allows this.
Read up on the pros/cons of a full-time triple LSD system. It's FAR different than an AWD system.

Are you just stirring the pot? I hope so cause with a user name that has "offroad" in it you sure are showing your ignorance...

1) The 2010 Lexus RX no longer has a locking center diff.
2) In normal driving, the RX sends 100% of the torque to the front wheels.
3) In normal driving, the 4Runner sends a portion (I believe 40%) of the torque to the front wheels.
In summary, in normal operation, the 4Runner sends torque to all 4 wheels. In normal operation, the RX sends torque to just the front wheels. The RX doesn't send torque to the rear wheels until it senses slip.
