Locating a Shoreline Blue Trail
So we signed all the paperwork and agreed on a price for a Blue TE on April 14th, now the dealer cannot locate a vehicle.
I guess I'm looking for some advice on how I push my dealer to aggressively seek out the truck I want. Right now, I think he's taking the passive route and hoping one will fall into his lap.
I went thru toyota.com, then located dealers, then went to each individual website looking through inventory. Is there a better way to do this? This takes FOREVER searching up and down the eastcoast
Any help and suggestions would be most appreciated.
TIA.

Update: My husband just spoke with a dealer that isn't too much further away than the one we signed the papers with. They said they can do something called a "Build Out Swap" and we could get the Trail in 4 to 8 weeks.
Can someone explain to me how a BOS works and if I can trust what they are telling me?

I'm guessing that they checked the Toyota computer system, found a 4Runner speced out as you want it, but the vehicle is assigned to another vehicle. They swap the assignment with the other dealer, so that 4Runner is sent to your dealer rather than the other dealer.

I couldn't find one locally either and had dealers telling me they could NOT get one in that color/trim/option package. Eventually, I found one that would place a "preference request", with a warning it could take up to 90 days to get it. We settled on a price and I placed a deposit and one was added to their allocation in less than 10 days. 90 days turned out to be 25. To me, it sounds like BOS and preference request amount to the same thing.

Thanks....I actually found one...just by checking each dealer's website individually. I'm in the process of working out numbers, trade-in and see if they can deliver or meet me somewhere in-between. It's 7 hours away.
This is a royal PITA, it literally took me about 4 hours going town by town, looking at surrounding dealers, and checking each dealer's inventory...but JACKPOT!
I'll let you know if I can make it happen (not that it really matters to you, but I am excited!)

So we made a deal over the phone with the dealer. Agreed on a price, even gave us a good price on our trade, gave him a deposit on credit card and canceled our order with our local dealer.
FOUR minutes later the dealer called andd said another salesman sold the car ONE MINUTE before he put the sale through! I feel like every single dealer just lies, lies, lies!
Now I'm back to square one! If anyone knows where a Blue Trail is hiding out, please let me know.

I'm sure they're out there... Not that you want to come all the way out to Colorado, but Mountain States Toyota in Denver has a blue Trail.
For pricing... Ever try overstock.com? You can get a certificate to print out - to start the negotiation process. I know this dealer is part of the program.
Good luck.

Thanks FX. I have printouts from Overstock, AAA, and AmEx. I think all three programs are exactly the same as the sites look the same and the numbers are identical.
I also have a print-out from truecar.com
It's so frustrating. I'd even think about flying somewhere and driving the car back, but I have to trade my car in to afford the purchase and I don't want to drive much more than 6 to 7 hours tops.
T'm looking ME down to VA and now I'm thinking about looking into Western PA.

Well, I can't guarantee this will work but try McDonough Toyota, in Staunton, VA. I ordered a Shoreline Blue TE at the end of December and they called me last night to tell me it was in. This was a courtesy call as I had canceled my order back in April (I'm stopping by to check it out this morning). Anyway, it just came in, I'm not buying it and I'd imagine it may be 'on hold' for a standby customer. However, if not, you may be able to grab this one as it's only about 2hrs south of DC. Good luck and enjoy it when you finally get one!

Mdrei just found my vehicle for me. Deposit is down and I'm driving to VA to pick it up on Saturday. I cannot thank you enough. These forums are amazing.

Sweet... congrats.
Funny how things work out... and how this forum is more beneficial than the majority of most dealership employees.

Toyota owes Mdrei a commission, that's two sales he's responsible for so far.
Congrats on your new TE!
