2011 Speculation

Last year, prior to the 2010's release, there were a few Toyota dealer websites that had preliminary specs that were pretty close to what was released.

Doing a Google search, I found that those dealers have entries for the 2011 model year. An example is here.

The pricing is obviously copied from the 2010 listing, but if you review the specs (and compare them to the 2010 listing on their site), there are several notable differences. I noticed the following:
  • Transmission remains a 5-speed
  • Demise of the 4-cylinder model. Not listed on the site. No V8.
  • Leather steering wheel added to the Trail Edition
  • Limited wheel width shows 7.5" (vs 7")
  • Memory seats and cargo cover added to Limited standard equipment
  • Antenna shows "window grid" -- this one is questionable, though, as the 2010 listing on their site also shows "window grid," and we know that's, unfortunately, not true.

This is all pure speculation, of course, until the real info is released from Toyota itself (probably September to the public?).

They also have 2011 listings for the Highlander, in case anyone is interested. It's a mid-cycle refresh year, but I didn't notice much besides new colors (including Shoreline Blue) and the 3rd row is now split 50-50.

The one thing I've always wished I had was a leather steering wheel.....of course 1 year later

Was the antenna integration into the rear glass not implemented previously because the rear window can be lowered into the tailgate causing lower clarity reception?

Also says the 2011 Trail will have leather/metal-like steering wheel - perhaps its just the same as the 2010 written with a different description.

On the 4th gen, the antenna is on the side windows all the way to the rear, not on the rear window. If the 5th gen goes back to a window antenna, I expect it will do the same.

The demise of the 4-cylinder is not a surprise, as it is completely pointless -- not enough power with effectively no gas mileage benefit.

The "metal-like" part is the silver plastic around the audio and Bluetooth controls. I didn't look at their 2010 TE listing, but the SR5's description is urethane/metal-like steering wheel.

I wonder if they will be bringing back the HVAC controls on steering wheel as originally planned on the Limited. There are many other features I rather see before that is standard.
