Warm temps + highway speed will bump that psi up another 5-8 psi. You could be running closer to 60psi. Which is what my 9800lbs 15 passenger van calls for. Which weighs 2x more then the 4R.

So an extra mile per gallon x 23 gallons = an extra 23 miles per tank.

Estimate 23 miles of gas to be worth about $3.

Say you fill up weekly 52 x $3 = $156

Prematurely burning out a $1200 set of tires to save $150 a year on gas doesn’t really seem like savings.
Plus a smaller contact patch means less traction so all around bad, especially worse braking and emergency maneuvering.

With my '20 ORP (stock with factory size KO2s) I was getting about 17.8mpg since I owned it. Kind of disappointing because my former '10 TE with KO2s and C4 sliders knocked down a consistent 19.5mpg. Then I remembered air pressure as I did everything myself on the '10 but Toyota is doing all the oil & tire stuff on the new one. I bumped the tire pressure up from what I assume was 35 cold to 39 cold like I did on the '10. Now I'm averaging about 19.2mpg in my normal mix of driving. Still not as good as my '10 TE but really nothing about the '20 ORP is except the same color and seat heaters . Regardless, I'm happier with the mileage.

Maybe bc of the roof rack and the affect it has on aerodynamics due to it? lol I SWEAR I'm getting the same mpg right now.

It's definitely a contributing factor. There is more drag with the rack and other shit I have up there lol. I believe ya.

Has anyone tracked MPG data when in when off road?

Clearly there is a lot of factors that play into this data as mentioned in this thread. Ideally I am looking for a data set from those with heavy weighed down vehicles in rough terrain.

I am headed into the Maze next month and our route is longer than previous trips in the Maze and its the first time I am taking the 4R. I am guessing the mix between dirt in 2wd and sections of rough 4wd is going to put me around 10 gpm. The route puts us at 200mi between fuel stations.

Anyone input from those with actual trip data is appreciated.

As with on-road driving, YMMV.

If you're actually figuring 10 gallons per mile, as stated, and take enough gas to cover that kind of fuel usage, you will very likely have more than enough gas. Personally, I'd figure on 5-10 mpg.

I’m seeing 10-15 in a mix of 4H and 4L. No crawling, mostly lightweight stuff.

2021 limited here: 1400 miles on the clock and seeing 18.00~ on the highway. This is not according to the computer, but by gallons consumed/refilled. If this is anything like my last, I expect to see right around 20-21 after I’ve put about 10K miles or so on it. My hope is that using the radar cruise control will actually yield just a bit better MPG as well. My previous fifth gen didn’t do nearly this well with this few miles on the clock. Vehicle is bone stock.

General questions

I know this is not the proper place to post this BUT the forum gives me no choice
Evidently I need to reply to X number of threads before I can start a new one.

I am considering purchasing a 2021 4Runner. I have questions for which a lot of searching has not resulted in any answers.

All questions pertain to the SR5 with the part time 4 wheel drive option.

1. With the part time 4 wheel drive option does the SR5 still come with operational rear drive limited slip (i) when 4WD engaged?, (ii) when 4WD not engaged?

2. I see mention of an Anti-theft Security system. Does the system include an alarm in the event of window breakage, door opening etc?

3. Sliding rear cargo deck. What are dimensions of the area below the optional sliding rear cargo area?

4. With the 2nd row seats folded down what are the dimensions (not capacity) of cargo area behind front seats (length, width, height)

2020 TRD Pro with 285 BFG KO2. Average 15-16mpg mixed driving, maybe 20mpg on extended highway trips with average speed under 70mph.

Swapped to 275/70/17 C load and shit winter fuel, my MPG dropped to 10mpg. Back up to 13mpg with it warming up and a bit more psi in the tires.

So an update... from South Louisiana (so no hills or mountains to climb daily)...

2019 ORP

It came with SEMA wheels and SL rated Nitto TerraGraps. In stock form got 19-19.5mpg average for the first 23.5K miles

Now it's on a Dobinsons IMS kit, SPC UCAs, FN f(x) Pros with 285/70 C load Nitto Ridge Grapplers. In the first 500mi since lift, it's getting about 17.5mpg and that included some light wheeling recently to check out the new suspension.

I don't know if it was solely the cold temperature for the past couple months or if we've already changed away from the winter blend, but I'm finally getting over 17MPG again. For the past couple months, it was in the 16s at best. Oftentimes in the 15s.
