This thread has been awesome for someone who is potentially in the market. My lemon buyback is scheduled for saturday, and its nice knowing what to expect in MPGs if I get one of these.

Evidently I need to reply to X number of threads before I can start a new one.

I am considering purchasing a 2021 4Runner. I have questions for which a lot of searching has not resulted in any answers.

All questions pertain to the SR5 with the part time 4 wheel drive option.

1. With the part time 4 wheel drive option does the SR5 still come with operational rear drive limited slip (i) when 4WD engaged?, (ii) when 4WD not engaged?

2. I see mention of an Anti-theft Security system. Does the system include an alarm in the event of window breakage, door opening etc?

3. Sliding rear cargo deck. What are dimensions of the area below the optional sliding rear cargo area?

4. With the 2nd row seats folded down what are the dimensions (not capacity) of cargo area behind front seats (length, width, height)

Joe Pal
All this info can be obtained from the dealership, the Toyota website and going to a dealership to take measurements. Personally I see no usefulness of the sliding cargo tray, but thats me.

As far as MPG goes I get 20+ hwy depending on elevation gain/loss. City MPG about 15-16, I travel 2 miles each way for work 5 days a week with a lot of lights along the way.

None of the 3 dealerships in my area have any new or used 4runners in stock.

So the first few months having the car brand new after a full tank fill up, the miles to E would be around 380-390 miles, now after a full tank fill up, it dropped down to 330 miles....... Any idea?

Your computer figures distance to empty based on current average fuel consumption. I’d guess your getting about 16-17 mpg.

When I see the ECO light, I smile

Ever since I my 4Runner, I've relied a lot on eco light to remind me not to accelerate so quickly. Typically have to accelerate pretty quickly when getting onto the freeway but that's it. I don't really pay attention to city vs hwy because I do a lot of mixed driving between streets and hwy. What I can say is I typically average 18.5 to 20.4 mpg. Honestly I'm really satisfied with it.

Fuel economy drops off a lot after 65 and a ton after 70. Our highway speeds in Oregon are a little slower, but I tend to find myself driving between 60-65 on the highway and I'm averaging 17.5-18.5 (depending on much highway driving I do) with P-rated 265 ATX's.

'21 Nightshade, 100% stock.

I'm averaging 19.7 mpg over 11,500 miles.

I took a trip from Greenville, SC to Pawley's Island, SC and set cruise control at the speed limits and achieved a new high score this weekend.

23.5 mpg for the first ~120 miles of 60-70 mph interstate

25 mpg for the last ~100 miles of 55 mph country highways with a few stop signs (2 hrs 11 mins, avg speed of 50 mph).

These are hand calculated mpg, the computer is within +/- 0.2 mpg.
