Swapping to TE wheels-question

I am in the market for a set of TE wheels w/tires. If I purchase them with the previous owner's TPMS installed, will it work with my Limited? Or do I need to remove the ones from my current 20" wheels?

Also, will moving to 17" wheels pose any problems since my factory wheels were 20"? I read that the height is the same, is this true??

I believe the truck computer recognizes the tpms sensor serial numbers that were originally installed. If you plan to switch to TE wheels with new sensors, your truck may not recognize them. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Others have mounted TE wheels on their LE, so going down in diameter should not cause any issues.

Thanks. I'm assuming the sensors have to be removed and installed when dismounted?

Correct, your tire shop can easily transfer the sensors from one wheel to another and should be free of charge.

You can just leave them on the TE wheels and have a tire shop scan them into your TPMS ECU on your Limited. Takes about a minute, they walk around to each wheel and hit a button to read the id of each TPMS and then they stand by the drivers door and hit enter and it will read confirmed on a Bartek scanner. I had it done 4 times already. Discount tire store around here does it for their customers for free. The dealers rip you off and charge like $50 or something for a 1 minute job.

Having them dismount and rebalance the tires and swap them over is going to cost money. Plus the little rubber o-rings on the TPMS are not supposed to be re-used after they are taken off and will have to be bought.

The o rings aren't supposed to be reused? The place I got my rims and tires just swapped them over without changing the o rings am I going to have issues down the road?

Great info Harper, thanks. I know people have swapped to TE wheels no problem as Surf&Snow stated, but will it affect my speedometer at all, ABS or anything else? Can anyone confirm this?

thanks

I swapped my limited 20's out for FJ rims and tires. I have no issues. The speedo is still on par, ABS works as advertised, along with everything else. I think the ride quality was increased by changing to a 17 with 265's.
