Dual battery kit 5th gen

I was at the offroad expo in pomona a couple of weeks ago and ran into a gentleman by the name of Jawan from Kodiak industries. He mentioned that they had just tested a dual battery kit on a trail edition t4r and have a kit available. The kit consists of (2) 1200amp odyssey marine grade batteries, tray, hold down, all the hardware and wires, and the tools to install the system. Pictures will be available in a couple of days.

the Odyssey batts are well regarded... this approach would sure save some space under the hood! looking forward to the pics of the 5G install.

man, those Kodiak folks need an editor for their website, though... or at least run a frickin' spell-check on it.

In the existing pics they have on there, it looks like two batteries side-by-side, but is that setup gonna fit into the runner in the existing battery location? If it does, then I assume that their marine batteries are smaller? Guess I just need to wait for the pics.

Yes I remember him telling me that the batteries will be mounted side by side. I think the batteries are 6" wide 7" long.... This will leave more space open on the left side of the engine bay for a pump or washer fluid bottle relocation.

I already have a little battery box over there on the left that I store my air comp hoses and attachments in...so this is a great thing for sure!

Very nice setup.I don't see prices .How much did they say this was?

Maybe if they put both batteries on the passenger side .The problem with both batteries on the drivers side is these 4Runners have so much extra weight ALREADY on the drivers side with a full gas tank and driver on that side .I could actually feel it on off camber trails that were tilting to the left.Compensated somewhat with a few more turns on my drivers side CO's but I need to get more weight on the other side.Either that or trade 100lb GF in for one of those voluptuous zaftig women and hang her out the right window for ballast.

These odyssey 1200 batteries are really nice and small but still weigh 38 lbs a piece. Not sure if they're worth the price tag of $220-240 a piece either for what I do.I can get a Diehard or Optima for half that price and mount it on the other side and use a Sure Power battery separator.

He said it goes for $835.00. The batteries are pretty pricey but deliver 2400 total amps. I am considering it since I do have a winch and lights, also planning on an arb fridge and like the ability to manually switch over to the aux batt when the car is off to keep the fridge running. Plus I am going to need the space on the passengers side for the washer fluis bottle relocation.

Dlak, was that price with the batteries? I'm also considering a setup due to the fact we are also going to get an ARB fridge and some other accessories.

Yes that includes 2 pc1200 batteries, hardware, battery tie downs, and install kit including tools to install. I have a winch and lights and am planning on getting an arb aswell. The thing I like about this setup other than 2400 amps is that you can flip the switch over to aux when your at a camp site and have your fridge just run off of that one batt till drained. You can then flip to main to start the vehicle and once the vehicle starts it will go into dual mode and charge the empty battery.

This sounds really strange but it looks like the UPS driver is holding my kit hostage or something. He attempted delivery on Thursday during which I had an argument with him over the phone since I wasn't there to except it.(The intercom goes to my cell phone.) Friday, no delivery attempt, Monday, no delivery attempt. I called the depot this morning and they said the driver wasn't answering his pages. I called again this evening and they still didn't have an answer.

It's bizarre but maybe I'll find out what's going on tomorrow. It's killing me waiting for my new toy.
