My 2010 SR5 did not come with the heated windshield wiper option. I live in an area where snow and ice are common in the winter. Has anyone installed heated wipers as an after market mod? If so, what are the approximate costs ? Also, for those who have this option, is it worth it? Do these heated wipers really help keep the windshield clear?

I'm pretty sure the windshield wipers are'nt heated on the 4Runners.I believe it's actually the lower windshield where the wipers sit that gets heated when you turn it on.
I like to turn it on when the lower windshield gets fogged up on those nights with a dew or high humidity also.Clears it up faster.
I haven't used this feature on my new Limited, but as Harper7 pointed out, the wipers do not heat up, only a portion of the windshield. Just looking at the way the heat strip is arranged, it should work fine, especially when the wipers are frozen to the windshield. We received our first snowfall yesterday, so I don't think it will be long before I get a chance to give this feature a test run.

get a remote starter, leave the defroster on and air on high the night before...let car run for 10 minutes while u are getting ready. when u get to your car hit the wipers and the ice will fall right off. did it this morning since it snowed yesterday evening

BTW, I've never used either. My '06 Highlander had the windshield wiper de-icer feature. Never figured out how to operate it though - no visable switch, unless it powered up with the rear window de-icer and the heated mirrors? :shrug:

Yeah, its actually a windshield de-icer, if you look in your owners manual on page 312. The lower part of the windshield, and on the side pillars can get very hot. The wipers themselves, however, are not actually heated (for the record)...

spent some time looking at the owners manual over lunch. the rear window defroster is also the control for the side mirrors. hence the 2 defroster graphics on the button.

That's actually a good news, I was wondering how expensive heated wipers might be when I'll need to replace them in a year or two. Luckily there is nothing to worry about then.
