Will a stubby antenna give me an aerodynamic and weight saving advantage to be able to tow 5012 lbs.

What is the experience you folks have had if any with this. Cutting needed Etc. I wanted to put General Grabbers on it 33X12.5 / 17s is there an offset and or back space needed to fit these tires? Thanks guys!

I think it is funny how people catch flack for starting new threads when there is already one pertaining to what they want to know, but then people make fun of them for commenting on an old thread.

@rt: I run a 32.8x11.5 on a 17x9 wheel with 5.5 backspace and -12 offset (same as stock, so the extra width over 265's is split equally between the inboard and outboard side). I ride on 3" of lift, have done the fender liner mod, and have my castor cranked up to around 4 degrees, but I still rub in the mud flaps at full lock in reverse.
You might be able to get away with a little less offset, but a mount chop will be in your future for sure. Definitely do not even consider going to a 33" without UCA's.

I'm running 285/70/17s with a stage 5 kit. I also have MT's upper and lower control arms, so it guess it could be considered a stage 6-ish. Anyway, I'm trimmed and cut and I still have rubbing issues when in reverse at full turn. You probably could push the 305s under there with minimal issues but the 315s? It would be rub city.
Yes.....I need to update my sig.

My next set of tires are going to be 34s. I am re-gearing soon too. I know the body mount will need to be cut. Then I will bust out the BFH for other stuff.

I don't think either of those (backspace or offset) is same as stock. Backspace is 4.5" for SR5/LE and 4.875" for TE. I believe the offset is +12mm for SR5/LE and around +15mm for TE (not sure on the TE honestly). Sounds like your wheels are significantly different than stock.

4.5" of backspace on a 7" wheel is equal to 12mm of offset, 5.5" backspace on a 9" wheel is also equal to 12mm of offset. Have a look:

Edit: double checked my own wheel specs, they are different from what I remembered, and I also mistakenly thought the stock wheels were a negative offset for some reason (mine are actually 17x9, 4.5"bs -12 mm offset), but the above is still true

Hey CGill,
Like your rig.
Can you tell me what size Wheel/Back spacing/and offset you used ?
It looks likey they fit nicely in the wheel wells even though you went quite a bit wider.
Thanks.

I've got the same wheels - mine are a -12mm, though I'm only running a 285/70. Maybe a quick check of the Ultra website might give you available offsets for our bolt pattern in a 17" and you can do some detective work. Any proficient tire shop should be able to help you decide from there with some basic measurements.

Rub
When I bought this truck it had 35's and the rub was bad, also the gas mileage was 12 mpg. For both those reasons I sold them and went to 33's

Check with Jason Demello. He might be willing to tell you what was involved in stuffing 35's under a 5th Gen.

Needs little more lift!
To me 285/75/17 and 295's look the best on a 5th gen. These are 34" tires.
Anything that wide as in Demelo's picture just does not look proportional to me. Sure he fit them. But look how close the tires are to the fender flares? I bet he rubs when going up driveways at a 45 degree angle. You simply cannot off road that thing with full stuff! Maybe you can if you ware earplugs so you dont hear the tires rubbing on everything..
Any 35" tire on the roof rack? How the heck do you get a tire up/down there that big by yourself? You simply can't!

295/70-17 Coopper SST's
34" tire required body mount chop, caster to nearly 4 degrees and some plastic trimming of the front bumper
