Will TE's always be scarce
I've been unable to find a TE anywhere near me here in Colorado. I've also searched several dealers in Texas where my family lives, and they don't have any either. This board seems to be in the know, so I'm seeking information or advice about whether the TE models will likely be available again soon or will they always be hard to find? Is this just a short-term lull in production?
I'm in no hurry, because this is an extra vehicle for me, but I really hoped to have it for ski season. So, my options are to wait until I luck into one (no guarantees here), order one, or switch to an SR5 edition (I don't want the Limited).
I've tried speaking to a couple dealers about this, but they're so anxious to sell their inventory that they really have convinced me that no more TE's are coming. What does the board think?

im from southern california, i went to a couple dealers looking around and found one with navigation and KDSS. i saw 6 without nav but i really wanted one with it. i think it depends on what you want. you may have an easier time finding one without navigation.
im not sure what your plans are when it comes to offroading but i know the 4x4 SR5's are more than capable, and it would be the cheapest route. my TE with nav and kdss out the door was i believe 39k. a 4x4 sr5 is more around 35k? i believe. limiteds are going to be 40k+ they kinda remind me of the range rovers, all wheel drive all the time with all the bells and whistles but still offroad worthy if you want them to be. so you will find a TE, i think it just may not have all bells and whistles
do sr5's have the option of navigation?
edit: just looked on the toyota website to build a 4runner, the TE wasnt even available to build. are they not making them anymore?

I can still build one on the Toyota website using my zipcode (80201), so they must still be available (theoretically) in my region.
Thanks for your information. I definitely don't need the extra off-road capability of the TE, but I do much prefer the look of the black trim and the lack of the chrome trim everywhere on the SR5. I'm not really looking for the KDSS or NAV, but frankly, right now, I'd take almost any TE. Price is not really an issue.

If you're going to get a TE i'd recommend KDSS...it greatly improves the handling/ride of the vehicle.

I know when they first came out they're a little hard to find but when in bought mine this summer there were at least 15 others around Colorado.

Thanks for the tip. Can you explain the basic differences? How will the TE with and without the KDSS compare to the SR5? I thought the KDSS was more for offroad handling, but I'm new to these vehicles.

There appear to be several available here in the northwest, within 150 miles of Portland according to cars.com. It's a long way to come for a vehicle!
The KDSS has a larger sway bar and improves body roll when cornering. I'm glad I have it.

I found my 4Runner Trail Edition first being advertised on cars.com
Just click new cars, Toyota, 4Runner and then you can drill down by year, model, color etc. There are definitely plenty of TE's still out there and sure to have more coming for the rest of 2011.
Right now there are 75 2011 TEs and 81 2010 TEs out there. Two weeks ago there were only 23 2011 TEs.

Thanks, all, for the information, especially the cars.com idea. I've found several that match my needs, although most are almost a 1,000 miles away. I'll start working the phone tomorrow.
Thanks again!!

Stevinson West - 2 Trails
Stevinson East - 1 Trail
Mountain States - 1 Trail
Ehrlich Toyota - 1 Trail
I'm surprised that Go Arapahoe doesn't have any since they typically have the most stock. I was there last month and they had at least 6 trails.
Good luck w/ your search.

None of these are there. Cars.com is a little outdated with their data. On Wednesday, I went to both Stevinson Toyotas, Mountain States, Go Toyota and Groove Toyota. None of them have any TE's. The Cars.com data seems to be quite stale. After finding many on there, I went to the individual dealer websites and the vehicles are not there. Also, I personally visited each of these dealerships, and they don't have any nor can they locate any in Colorado.
I found the same problem with the Edmunds search tool. It's outdated.

That sucks to hear that the TEs aren't on the lots as advertised by Cars.com and similar sites. They must be moving them pretty quickly off the lots.
When I was looking, every dealer website I visited from a Cars.com lead showed the vehicle there and never came across one that wasn't. I guess its hit or miss.
Keep doing the work though, it'll pay off!
