Blizzard Pearl - Needs body repair- will paint match?
Hi everyone,
I rear ended a CR-V with my brand new SR5. Never had been in an accident before so of course I had to get into one with my brand new ride!
The CR-V had a tire mounted on the back with caused all of the damage. Need to replace the bumper, grills, hood, headlight. It doesn't actually look that bad, but replacing the hood and repainting it plus the fenders is going to cost $3k.
I've got good insurance that will take care of it, but I'm just worried about the body shop being able to match the blizzard pearl paint. They say they can do it and they have good reviews (although not a large sample size). I'm confident I found the best place after looking at several (Colorado Collision in Arvada). Should I be worried about the paint matching? I'm not actually getting the work done until April...it's snowboarding season.

It should match because the paint mixture is taken from the color code that's on your door jam. Ouch, a CR-V? Just to let u know, the CR-V may not look too damaged, but that tire easily dents that door.. That's an easy $2k damage to the CR-V.. I speak from experience unfortunately I've been rear ended 3 times in my CR-V and while everyone says it's just a scratch, sorry to say the door is decently dented and becomes costly..
Some say it's just a scratch, well the damage is behind...
It even knocked the door out of alignment, forcing me to slam the door just to shut it
That's $2k damage?
This is how the car who hit me looked like...

you have new paint which hasn't faded yet, you won't notice a difference.

Well, what are your options? You have to have it fixed, so pick the best body shop around, and nit pick them if it's not 100% correct.

I'm not an expert on paint at all, however, there was a thread on the forum a while back with someone who had a BP who had an accident & had to have it repainted. There were issues with getting it to match (rear bumper I believe). I believe there was a good amount of info tossed around on the BP color as it is not just a simple solid color. Do a search and some digging and you should be able to find the thread and gain some more info.

This is definitely a concern with BP. My concern, mostly, would be with how the paint looks when it is washed and freshly waxed. That sparkling undercoat really shines when the truck is clean and really pulls out the details in the bodywork. It can't be easy or cheap to replicate that.
Otherwise, I've been really happy with BP. It seems like it was a really, really good paintjob from the factory. That big, blunt front end would be expected to pick up rock chips pretty badly, but mine looks perfect w/ 12k miles on it. My mom's Rav4 is BP and it looks perfect w/ 15k miles.

My father in law owns a paint shop. He told me the BP is a tough color to match. Make sure you take it to a good body shop though it sounds like you feel comfortable with their work.

Go with your gut about the shop. Remember that this color is very dynamic, and when you get it back you will swear that the color is off. However, you will have forgotten that the color looks different depending upon the light, etc. anyway. Chill. You will be fine.

As long as they blend the adjacent panels the color match should be fine. Talk to any painter out there and it doesnt matter what color it is if it has metallics or pearls, its gonna be hard to match. I do bodywork and for every paintcode theres different formulas and shades for the same color. Depending on the brand of paint supply they use can also affect it,but it really depends on the painter if he does any spray outs to match the color as close as possible. If you guys ever notice, even on brand new cars, the front and rear bumper colors dont match the rest of the vehicle.

Make sure they redo the clear coats on adjacent areas around the bumper and whatever else needs to be repainted, so that it will help in blending with the newly repainted parts

I never realized the CR-V was such a despised vehicle with everyone wanting to rear end them.
Metallic paints are the hardest to get a match during repairs. It really comes down to the body shop and how much care they take in blending the repainted panels with the original paint. If they just repaint the repaired panels without blending into the surrounding panels, the repairs will be much more noticeable. A nice blend, and you may never see the difference. This is true even with non-metallic paints.

In my white car that got rear ended by some jacka$$ owning experience, white is one of most difficult colors to match, especially when you start dealing with metallics.
My s2000 was back and forth to the paint shop numerous times to get the paint correct.

Some toyota repair shops will have all the correct parts and the matching paint for all Ford vehicles. it will be all oem stuff, not reproduction or knock off parts and paint. Their auto body repair personnel are just as qualified as the tech's in an independent body shop.
