Viper Alarm in Limited?

can anyone with a 5th gen limited with an aftermarket alarm system comment on whether the touch-sensitive door handles function after installation of the new system? not sure how the stock security features are affected by aftermarket installs.

also wondering about the logistics of aftermarket remote start- i read in other threads that factory remote start in the limited shuts off when the door handle is touched...

some punks busted my passenger side window this weekend and rummaged through the center console. luckily it doesnt seem they took anything of value- possibly just being drunk idiots, as they smashed several car windows on the block. although the law of averages would suggest that my car will be safe for some time, im kinda compelled to beef up the security. plus adding remote start capability would be nice.

thanks in advance for your input-

Does your limited not have an alarm? I thought those were standard on that trim level. Mine has an alarm, now granted, I don't think it would detect a window break but as soon as the door or hood was opened it would go off. I guess they didn't open the door? Just cralwed in thru the window maybe? Sorry to see this man, It makes you feel vulnerable for sure.

TO your original question, I'm pretty sure the lock/unlock would still function as I don't think those really depend on the alarm itself. I don't know that you would be able to integrate the features into a 3rd party alarm (like how it automatically disarms when you unlock the door by touch with the fob in your pocket).

Sorry to hear about this bud, hang in there. What goes around, comes around.

you're correct- they didn't open the door... i've tested the alarm since the incident, and it works properly (actually pretty loud since i installed the fiamms). only thing that had me confused at first is that it actually arms 30 seconds after the doors are locked- so opening the door through the window immediately after locking with the fob will not result in an alarm...

I just bought a Limited. First, you have to carry two remotes with you. Since we have push button start you have to have the factory remote.

I got a Python alarm, made by DEI which is the same company that owns Viper and all other venomous alarm systems.

If you lock your ltd using the factory remote your alarm will not activate and you will be able to open the doors using the walk up function. The walk up function will even work if you have it armed (alarm) but when you open the door the alarm will sound. When you arm the truck with your Viper you will have to unlock it with the Viper remote.

I also got the remote start in the Python system with the LCD screen, it works slick. Start the vehicle. When you unlock the vehicle the 4r remains started; get in and press the start button twice (do not press brake or the truck will turn off) and you are good to go.

Summary; use your Viper for everything: lock, unlock, arm, disarm and start. Keep your factory remote only for activating the push start.

I had my system installed through the dealership by a contracted shop to avoid any possible warranty debates.

Let me know if you need additional info. Cheers
