Will 255/80R17 tires fit a 5th gen?

Hi,
I am considering putting some 255/85R17 BFG KM2's on my 2010 TE. I searched the forum, but could not determine if anyone has put this size tire on a 5th gen. If anyone has tried it or has any information, I would appreciate it. By the way, I am planning on putting an Overland Warehouse HD lift prior to installing these tires. Thanks.

255/85 = 34 x 10

285/70 = 33 x 11 ( most common tire size after lift )

It will fit but your going to have to trim in the front or it will rub in reverse

Yes they will fit, but I have to disagree with the post above me. I would say hands down the most popular size after lifts is 285/70. Which is generally a 33x11.5.

You will have to do some minor trimming, possible just removing the front mud flaps, but it will not be too bad, plenty of 3rd/4th/taco/FJ guys run 3" of lift and 255s. If you like the pizza cutter look go for it.

I'm looking at those same tires. I wish they came in something other than he km2, but a lot of FJ guys run them. So I may take the plunge when money allows.

You have 2 diiferent sizes listed ......one in the thread title and one in the post.

255/85/17 is a 34 x 10 inch and will most likely require a body mount chop and pretty major trimming on front mud flaps and possibly front inner fender well.

255/80/17 is 33 x 10 inch and will fit with minor trimming on front mud flaps

Width of a tire is in mm
To convert mm to inches divide by 25.4

Harper,
Thanks for catching my mistake. I am looking at the 255/80R17s, not the 85 series. Thanks to everybody for the quick replies.

I should get the 255/80x17 for my spare. At least until I get a rear bumper with tire carrier.

Yeah, I do too. I just got rid of a series III rover with pizza cutters. I Just don't know how it would look on a 5th gen because of the flared fenders.

I am looking at these as well. I wasn't thinking of spacers at all. Do you think they would be a problem?

Bumping this thread up.

Anyone have the 255/80r17 size yet?

I had 235/85r16's on my 06 Tacoma (with bilstien 5100's to level it) and really liked them. I would like to run a slightly skinnier tire, but not 235 skinny! That, and I would like to put off a lift and other mods for a year, or until I wheel it a bit and see what I actually "need". I really wouldnlike an AT vs the KM2, but it appears that's all that's available.
