Is the price right?

Hello all. I'm brand new to the forum and I have enjoyed reading the posts. Good job, everyone has convinced me to replace my HD2500 with a new 2011 Limited with Nav and without running boards. They didn't have my color on the lot but will have it in a few weeks. It stickers for $43 and the "good guy" deal I got from a friend of a friend was $42 out the door. Unlike some of you, I absolutely hate to do the haggle game but will to get a better deal. Is the 42 a bad, good, or great deal. I'm in Oklahoma.

Thanks for helping a newbie out.

That's a horrible deal. You can get a 2011 for $39k if you're willing to haggle a little. USAA offers a car buying service that is a significant savings. You go to their site, enter the features and it gives you a price $2-$3k under MSRP that is good at any of the dealerships it list. Worth looking into.

If you are a member of Costco or AAA they should score you a better deal.

We are closing in on 5 buck a gallon gas. These things are going to sit on dealer lots like a t_ urd you can't flush.

I did my own deal in SoCal on a TE last year a rare model in my region with MSRP over almost $39K sold for $35 K. Cash deal no financing perks for the dealer.

Is the good guy involved giving you any lube cause they are bending you over dry?

Are they throwing in the kitchen sink??? Just don't get pressured into paying full price. As Toystry said, you should be paying under 40k for a fully loaded limited. Follow a few simple tips, make sure you aren't hungry, be prepared to just walk out the door(even if the car in right in front of you), and be patient. If you can, bring in someone (not the impulse buying friend) with you to help ease the pressure off and keep you focused. Do all your homework before you actually buy. If you want, get pricing and come back here and let us know what you were offered--we'll keep you on target.

As mentioned USAA has the deals. Also COSTCO/Priceline has the same service.

I found New & Used Cars for Sale, Auto Dealers, Car Reviews and Car Finance Advice helpful, not for prices. but seeing what is out there.

Finally for prices Toyota Car Prices for Toyota Models - New Toyota Price - TrueCar is a good source.

I've used the Costco Program twice now to get me at and below their price. Good guideline. My Limited, 3 weeks old was $43,484 and I bought for $39,300. Definetly get below $40K and don't let them sell you a Highlander like one Manager did to me.

$500 over dealer cost is pretty common. I was quoted that for a 2010 TE by the dealer in Muskogee, but I ended up paying more from another dealer rather than wait the three months it took him to get it in. If you aren't in a hurry, you can do much better than the offer they made you.

Go to Edmunds.com and figure out the cost. Add $500. Make an offer. They will take it. Don't forget, they also have a dealer reserve which adds to the profit.

It's a buyers market today. Rates are low, but you have to have good credit. That means that they can't sell to just anyone who is warm and breathing a $40k car like they used to be able to do.

So your saying you paid $42k total?

Hard for us to to tell what kind of deal your getting from the info of 42k out the door. I remember Oklahoma vehicle registration/tax was really high priced from having lived there.

What is the price you paid before all the taxes/registration and other add ons .Then we will have something to compare it to as all states are different for the out the door cost.
