Did you recalibrate the intake/maf sensor after the installation of trd cai ?
I have the URD MAF sensor calibrator, programmed for an exhaust and the TRD CAI, but I personally think it's a completely worthless mod.

I installed the CAI this weekend and love the way it looks. Sounds slightly better than stock at higher RPMs but at lower RPMs I can't tell the difference.

I do have a question for you guys who also have it...

I noticed a whistling sound when gassing it a bit (not under heavy load) right around 2700-4000 RPM. A whistling sound like it's sucking in air. It's not the whooshing sound most aftermarket intakes make...just a soft high pitch whistle. Are you guys getting that too? Just want to make sure it's normal.

Did you seal the hole in the bottom?
If not, there is your whistle.

Hope this helps.

As others have mentioned, dealers and on-line sellers won't commit to the TRD CAI working with 2020 models. May I ask what part number you ordered? Thanks!

I did, if you mean the little plug that it came with to plug the little hole on the airbox at the bottom (the side that faces out towards the front). Is there another hole I need to look for? I noticed a gap (whether intentional or not) where one of the grommets is closest to the actual motor leaves a slight gap. Figure it's there to drain any water?

Trust me it works. Just did it on my 2020 Pro. Here's where I ordered from...this is the part number.

I filled that one with silicone.
Shouldn't be any water getting in there!

My intake made the same sound when I swapped the TRD air filter into the stock air box. Installed the TRD CAI and the sound is identical. I believe others have said if you use an OEM filter with the TRD intake it eliminates the whistle.

I actually just read that. I'm going to try it just to see if it is the culprit. But we're kinda negating the purpose of the intake by using the stock paper filter...

Agreed. Most of my time driving is spent at low throttle, so the whistle is quite prevalent. I've become accustomed to it. The trade-off is when I need to accelerate quickly, the CAI plus TRD exhaust sounds fantastic.

On my intake there was a small hole facing forwards as well, I just threw on a small piece of black tape on the outside and I have had any whistling.. I didnt alter the bottom mounts at all. (Besides plugging the one hole)

I'm going to plug that gap in the one bottom mount with some electrical tape and see if that helps eliminate...

I uses the stock filter in mine, maybe that's why I don't have any whistle!

I beg to differ about negating the purpose of the intake by using the stock filter....
If that was the case, you could have just put a TRD filter in and saved your self hundreds.....

So, the TRD CAI makes my 4Runner perform better, even with the OEM filter...

YMMV
