Found a great cheap tire upgrade with lots of available supply

Since I got my SR5 back in the fall I have really wanted to beef up my tires and have been searching around for what would be a good fit. Something aggressive enough to do some relatively serious off-roading while not being overkill for my daily driver.

So I'm looking around and every good tire out there is like $250 and up. I just can't justify dropping that kind of money on new tires. But where am I going to find used mud terrains with a lot of life and haven't been used and abused?

Then it hit me. The stock Jeep Rubicon. There are TONS of brand new Rubicon owners looking to step up to bigger and better things immediately upon purchase and the market is saturated with BF Goodrich KMs on the bigger Jeep message boards. They're 255/75r17 which corresponds to about a half inch taller and half inch skinnier than the stock Dunlops.

I got a set of 4 with just under 1,000 highway miles on them and no offroading for $550 and turned around and sold my Dunlops with 6,500 miles on them for $400. $150 for better less used tires? Not a bad deal.

So far so good.

No noticeable increase in noise surprisingly enough and the stiffer sidewall feels like the truck is a lot more stable now.

And honestly, the pictures don't do it justice. It makes a world of difference in how good the 4Runner looks. Like night and day.

Looks good man, but now you definitely need some spidertrax spacers to fix the stance. I went a similar route but got tires with less tread and made about $150 profit. I'd like to see how those tall skinny MTs look pushed out more.

Looks good. Unfortunately there aren't too many for sale locally around Toronto, and no point in getting them shipped. I'll look on Jeep forums and see if anything is available.

The TE and the SR5 use the same size tire so I'm just wondering about the skinnier width... if it weren't for that I'd be all over them! Found one set locally for $700... maybe I'll offer $500.

@Will733, where did you find your spidertrax spacers? They don't have any listed on their website for anything recent other than the FJ, so I'm guessing you're running FJ spacers since they have the same bolt pattern. Any place you can get them cheaper than their website?

Check out jkowners.com

There seemed to be a bunch of sets floating around in there.

It's the same spacer on the FJ, Tacoma, and 3rd-5th gen 4runners. They were $200 shipped online for all 4, but I bought them locally for the same price so I had to pay tax on it too.

Craigslist. They got a ton of attention. If I had to do it over again I would have listed them at 500 or higher instead of 400.
