BREAKING NEWS..... About Front Trailer Hitch

I have been looking for a front hitch for some time now. I have looked on here and people have been getting them made because there are none for our 4Runners. I did some looking and found that the hitch that goes on the FJ looked like it would fit on our 4Runners. So, I order the FJ hitch. The total install time about 1/2 hour. Fits like a glove!! (not like OJ's glove ... lol)

Here is the info about the hitch I ordered.

Trailer hitch, hitches and bike rack (800)298-8924

31367 Front Mount - 07 Fj Cruiser

Price is $173.95

I see that it picks up 4 of the 8 front frame bolts to attach it.Where does it come out the front?Below the bumper? Pics would be nice!

Sorry but this is my first time putting pictures up. Not sure how to make the pictures smaller. Not good on the PC.

The hitch is about 3 3/4 inches back under the bumper.

This is were the hitch mounts to the bumper. Two bolts hold it to the bumper.

Looks decent for winches but perhaps not something to be used with 20-30 kip recovery straps? From the specs: "Line pull: 9,000 lbs"

I think I trust my ARB just a little bit more for winching. ARB attaches to the frame with 12 grade 8 bolts (6 on each side) compared to this that uses 4 frame bolts + a bolt that goes through each tow hook.

icenomad- i agree with you that your arb is more stout, but there is also a pretty big price differnce between a $200 hitch and a $1200 arb. i think for winching the hitch should be just fine right? or for a recovery point?

I will use my front hitch for my surf fishing basket. The two bolts that bolt to the tow hooks with a steel plate is the strength of the hitch. The hitch is solid.

Again it was under 200.00 bucks and shipping was free. Can't beat that.

Looks good, and for light duty (like front baskets etc) will be fine.

Considering the 4R doesn't have decent front hooks, this looks like a good, clean simple application for light duty. Good find.
Here's the direct link to the unit itself.

I wonder how CURT Manufacturing, Inc. arrives at the Vertical load/Gross trailer weight specs for their Front Receiver 31367. Their website shows 500 lbs/5,000 lbs while the photograph posted by sandfish shows 350 lbs/3,500 lbs—a capacity decrease of 30 percent.

I wonder how the T4R would handle a 240lb Motorcycle + 57lb Ultimate MX Hauler rack on the front? I presume not very well

Update~ X2!

I was just about to pull the trigger on the Curt #31367, which my Toyota Master Tech friend has on his 4th gen (he's a fellow surfcaster and said he's used it many times with snatch straps to pull out trucks stuck in the sand on the beach...) and in searching for the best price I came across the Curt #31054 which is made specifically for the 5th gen, and like the ARB it attaches using 8 bolts! see http://www.curtmfg.com/index.cfm?event=hitch and http://sitepro12.sitepro.com/masterl..._31054_INS.pdf

Nyrunner- great find. I however like how close the other fits to the body. I know the one you listed is made to go under the front air dam, but the other model removes the front air dam and sits higher and tighter to the frame and body. I wish they would make the old model but with all the attachment points.
