wheel well hidden storage?

I remember reading a post some months ago where someone did a mod and remarked about hidden space available in one (not both?) of the 5th gen wheel wells in the cargo area. If possible, I would like to pop off the wheel well storage tray and put a few things in there. Can anyone point me to that thread, or fill in the details? I'd prefer some guidance before digging in - many thanks

(and before the search-police jump on me ... I searched for it already without success)

The only person I can think of who had all that off was harper7 when he did his soundproofing. I'd check his posts, but be prepared to remove everything from the back carpet up as those trays are screwed in place.

I believe it was Harper. There is a thread with links to Picasa pics, the pic you want is in there.

I did it after reading Harper7's post. You CAN get those off without taking the panels out- that's how I did mine (both sides). I grabbed the edge closest to the side window and pulled up with a trim removal tool until I could get my fingers in there. Then -scary part- kept pulling until the tabs with the screws broke. You will cut that part off anyway. They break away cleanly without damage to the wheelwell plastic. Then you trim some clips -see Harper's Post- so they can be popped out easily and you are done! I put some trunk carpet in mine to keep it quiet in there. It's a great help when running wiring too. Thanks harper7 for the idea!

Hello
New to this forum. I see this is an old post so I'm not sure you will see this reply. If you do, I wanted to know if wiring can be fed from the driver side floor panels that can be lifted up back through to the open space under the driver side wheel well tray. Another feed talked about removing the entire quarter panel, which isn't something I'm interested in doing. I want to mount my battery management system on a molle panel back there and want to bring the wires to the back.

Thanks for your time and any help.

Alicia

Yes, totally. Here is how I did that (different application at the back, did passenger not driver, but it would be exactly the same).

Cargo Area Red/White Light Mod

Once you get it up from the rear seats to the platform on back, you can get it under those panels if you want.
