285 tire size questions

will 285/70/17 tires fit on stock rear height / 1 inch bilstein 5100 front lift?

currently have bilstein stock rear with bilstein .85 front lift and spidertrax 1.25 spacers

couldn't find the answer on search..

btw how many inches bigger are 285 vs 265 diameter wise

thanks for any help

• 265/70/17 = 32"
• 285/70/17 = 33" (may not be able to having a matching spare underneath)

...won't be able to answer your other questions, however here is some inspiration...

285/70's - the section width is 2cm or .787" wider, the sidewalls will gain a little over a half inch each, gaining you right at an inch overall height.

32.7" versus 31.6" approximately.

Of course each manufacturer will vary a little.

Depends on how aggressive you are going with tires, but I'm fairly certain they'll fit, but with rubbing, esp with the wheel spacers

No worries on the spare tire, my 285 spare fits perfectly

with the spacers you will have to be 2.25"-2.5" lift up front and have to do the Harper7 mod and move the innerliners forward(very easy by the way). the back is not a problem at all. I have mine not rubbing at a 39" measurement up front.

I haven't tried the 275 before but I think they will be close.

so spacers actually make it harder to fit bigger tires??

i really want a set of these terra grapplers.. but not sure if it'll fit with just a 1 inch lift up front

Plenty of folks have 285's on stock suspension with minimal rubbing. You'll rub a bit on the front inside fender liner which you can quickly remedy by moving it forward. Your issue will be the spidertrax spacers. Harper had a 1.75 lift in the front for a while that rubbed with 275's BFG A/T's on stock SR5 wheels and spidertrax pacers.

Your other consideration will be the actual tire. LT-rated tires, such as a BFG A/T which has a squared-off shoulder, will likely rub a bit more than a P-rated tire in 285's. I have Toyo Open Country A/T's 285/70/17's, no lift, and have no rubbing after I moved the fender liner forward.

Good luck.

thanks.. but you don't have spacers right? i wonder why spacers make it rub more if it's pushing the wheel away from the truck

are there any LT rated 265/70/17 a/t tires that are aggressive looking since the nitto terra grapplers aren't very aggressive looking..

Nitto TG 285 with spidertraxx spacers and ICON lift, rubs like crazy when backing up and turning. I may have to remove the mud guard on my TE.

EDIT: this is in regards to a 3rd Generation 4Runner. MY apologies for not catching that from the beginning I have 285/70/17 BFG TKO's and I don't rub at stock height on the rear.

Fronts a different story but i Only rub up front when i turn past 3/4's on the wheel and i get a bit of flex. (No trimming yet.)

Yes I know its old but If i ran across it on google I might as well add my 2 cents of experience since it relates directly to the op. I have stock height in the rear + TRD springs and 5100's in the front yielding ~2.4 inches of lift up front.
